June 2017 Events

Every Thursday STPS leads Trail Maintenance Outings. To Volunteer call Ken Bieger, 631-283-5432. Volunteers are also needed to clean up our adopted road every month. Call Dai Dayton, 631-745-0689.

Thurs., June 1-STPS Monthly Meeting. 7PM-9PM. STPS’s next meeting will be held in the lower conference room of Southampton Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road. All are welcome! For further information: 631-726-7503.

Sat., June 3-Celebrate National Trails Day with a Hike and Lunch in the Long Pond Greenbelt. 10AM-Noon. Meet at the Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center, 1061 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike. Moderately-paced 4 mile hike through oak/hickory forest with many pond views. Leader: Ken Kindler, [email protected], 631-879-3602.

Sun., June 4- Clam Island County Park. 9:30AM-10:30AM- Meet at end of Noyack Bay Avenue, Sag Harbor. Moderately- paced 2 mile beach hike with bay views of Jessup’s Neck. Leader: Doreen Johnston, 516-994-5947.

Sat., June 10-Elliston Park. 9AM-10:30AM. Meet at the Elliston Park entrance on Millstone Brook Road, Southampton. Moderately-paced 3 mile hike with views of Big Fresh Pond and Wolf Swamp. Leader: Howard Reisman, 631-283-5376.

Sun. July 11-Laurel Valley. 9:30AM-11:30AM. Meet at the kiosk located on Deerfield Road in Noyac across from Deerwood Path (North Side Hills). Moderately-paced 3 mile hike through wooded knolls and laurel-filled ravines. Laurel should be in bloom! Hilly terrain. Leader: Liz Karpin, 631-728-6492.

Two Event Saturday Sat. June 17- Barrel Hill Adventure. 10AM-12:30PM. Meet at the entrance of SYS, 1370A Majors Path, Southampton. Hike to White Hill with geodetic survey marker then on to Barrel Hill with views of Peconic Bay, Robins Island and the north fork. Hilly, moderately-paced 7 mile hike. Sat., June 17-Horses on Trails (HOT) Ride. Bring your own horse and helmet. STPS/HOT membership required due to insurance. It's easy to join on the day of the ride! Please contact Leslie Lowery, 631-603-8661 for reservations and more information.

Sun., July 18-Fathers’ Day Hike in the Mulvihill Preserve. 10:00AM-11:30AM. Meet at the Mulvihill Preserve, 820 Brick Kiln Road, Sag Harbor - entrance opposite Highview Drive (look for the white pillars and drive to end). Moderately-paced 3+mile hike through this historically interesting area. Vernal ponds, kettle holes, glacial erratics, the Great Swamp. Leader: Jean Dodds, 631-599-2391.

Sat., June 24- Camp Tekawitha. 10-Noon. Meet at the parking lot of Red Creek Park on Old Riverhead Road, Hampton Bays. Moderately-paced 4 mile hike to the old girl scout camp with beautiful bay views.Leader: Jim Crawford, 631-481-6228.

Two Event Sunday Sun., June 25-Narrow Lane Cleanup. 8AM-9AM. Help STPS clean up litter from our adopted road. Meet on Narrow Lane, and east corner of Norris Lane. Bring gloves. Leader: Dai Dayton, 631-745-0689.

Sun., June 25-Paumanok Path. 10AM. Meet at Laurel Valley on Deerfield Road, Noyac, opposite Northside Hills. Shuttle to Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center, 1061 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike. Moderate to fast-paced 9 mile hike. Enjoy mature oak, laurel, beech, pine woods and ponds that Southampton Town and Suffolk County preserved for YOU. Protect against ticks and bring a mid-hike snack.
