BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE FOR DECEMBER WEEK 2 SUBJECT: 5 BLESSINGS IN HIS NAME – PART 1

DIRECTIVES FOR THE TEACHER

All Bible study class teachers should personally study the outline in preparation for the cell meeting. During the meeting, please ensure your members have their Bibles and all the Scriptures in the outline are read; members have to look into their Bibles while the Scriptures are being read. In addition, don’t rush through the subject as you teach; remember that our intention is to have every member of the class understand the subject matter so that they can understand what the Bible teaches on the subject, and can become acquainted with the Scriptures. SYNOPSIS

Not many Christians know the blessings in the name of Jesus; they think it’s just a name to put at the end of a prayer but it is much more than that. The Name of Jesus is great and as Christians, we have the greatest gift and blessing of all times; the blessing in the name of Jesus. These are cardinal blessings out of which flow so many wonderful things. In this study, we would look at ‘5 Blessings in His Name’ which would be covered in two classes as shown below: PART 1 (December Week 2): We would study on the first three Blessings which are: Repentance Remission and Forgiveness

BLW TEENS MINISTRY

Eternal Life PART 2 (December week 3): We would complete our study by looking at the remaining two which are: Healing and Health The Holy Spirit and His Ministry

REPENTANCE

Luke 24:46-47 (KJV): ''And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem”.

What is Repentance? Repentance means turning away from something that you now judge to be wrong. Changing your mind from a wrong direction and doing the right thing.

The ability to acknowledge Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour is a gift from God, because not everybody has the courage to do so. John 6:65 (NIV): “He went on to say, ‘This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them”. God sent Jesus to bless you and turn you away from your iniquity; therefore, it's a blessing when you have the courage to change your mind from the direction you were going and decide to live rightly in Christ.

Acts 3:25-26 (KJV): “Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities”. It's a Blessing when you are able to say 'Lord I change my mind from going in the wrong direction, now I want to live right'. This is possible only through the Holy Spirit; Mathew 11:27 (KJV)- All things are delivered

BLW TEENS MINISTRY unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the son, but the Father, neither knoweth any man the Father, save the son and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

In our opening text (Luke 24:46-47), Jesus commanded that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name because God reveals this gift through the preaching of the gospel. So He's calling men everywhere to repent and turn to God. This is why we must preach the Gospel; Hallelujah!

REMISSION AND FORGIVENESS

Acts 13:38-39 (KJV): “Be it known unto you therefore men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins, And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses”. What do we mean by Remission? Remission is the complete removal, the blotting away of sin which is available only through the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus doesn't give you pardon, the blood of Jesus gives you remission. Your sins are completely removed because it is the final propitiation. He wants us to tell people, Remission is available; God completely blots out your sins and they are remembered no more. Let’s look at the book of Acts 10:43 (KJV): “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins”. Anybody who believes in Jesus shall receive remission of sins. All the prophets bore witness of Him and if you believe in Jesus Christ, you receive remission of sins. This is one of the blessings in the Name of Jesus. No religion provides remission of sins. 1 John 1:7 (KJV): “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin”. This verse gives us further insight into God’s idea about

BLW TEENS MINISTRY forgiveness. After you have given your heart to Christ, forgiveness has also been provided for you in the Gospel. If you did something wrong, instead of wondering what to do and thinking whether or not God has forgiven you, receive forgiveness; say, “Father I acknowledge that what I did is wrong, and I receive forgiveness in the Name of Jesus”. In Christ you have remission and forgiveness from sin, do not let the devil deceive you into believing otherwise. This is a gift from God; and a blessing in the name of Jesus.

ETERNAL LIFE

1 John 5:11(KJV): “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son”.

When you were born of your parents, you were born with a human life but after you gave your heart to Christ, you received eternal life. Being born again is not changing from bad to good; it’s the supplanting of your human life with divinity. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV): “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”. The very life and nature of God was impacted to your spirit; this is called eternal life, everlasting life; ‘Zoe’

The death of Jesus was a means to an end: to give us eternal life – the God-life. We have become partakers of the divine nature - associates of the God-kind (2 Peter 1:4). This is what we celebrate at Christmas time: that God has given us eternal life, a life greater than sickness, disease, failure and death; a life that makes us superior to Satan. John said this life – eternal life – is in God’s Son Jesus and whosoever has the Son has this life (1 John 5:11-12).

You may not feel it in your body that you have received eternal life, but it’s in your spirit nonetheless. You don’t have to “feel” it in your body first to know that you have eternal life. That is why the Apostle John, writing to the Church, said in 1 John 5:13(KJV) : “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know

BLW TEENS MINISTRY that ye have eternal life. Eternal life is the present hour possession of the one who believes in Jesus Christ, being a gift from God: “...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 6:23 (KJV).

Eternal life has come! Once, it was a promise, a hope afar off, but Christ has died; Christ is risen, and we were raised together with Him to a newness of life. He has brought life and immortality through the Gospel. This is what excites us to preach the Gospel, and tell men and women about Jesus. He came, not just to save humanity from sin, but also to give us eternal life. True Christianity is the pulsating life of God in a human person.

CONCLUSION

God has made these blessings available to everyone that believes in the name of Jesus. The world is full of so many negativities against the gospel, but we would not keep quiet because we know that the gospel is the only way by which man can be saved. Acts 4:12 (KJV): “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

As we celebrate Christmas, talk about the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Tell men that they can repent from their sins, tell them of remission and forgiveness that is available in the Name of Jesus and tell them of eternal life which God gives to as many that believe that Jesus is the son of God.
