I built a rocket, yes I did.I built a rocket, big and red. Dad and I, we built it big. We built a rocket in my bedroom. We finished the rocket yesterday at noon. Today it is supposed to carry us to the moon. The rocket is made of boxes, sheets, and wood.It seems so big and amazing, but it really should. It’s finally finished, and over there it stood. The rocket has toy switches, windows, and dials. It is filled with blankets, clothes, and things that make me smile. Within is everything that might be needed by a brave child. We built a rocket, just my dad and me.I know it’s just play and make- believe. So, maybe we’ll even let my little sister come and see…. We built a rocket, a father and his son.It has been such a ton of fun! Someday we may build another one.

Plants are a very important kind of life. Plants cover most land. They can be big or small and come in many colors, but they are not animals. Trees, flowers, grasses, and bushes are common plants.

How are animals and plants different? Plants usually can’t move. Plants breathe a different kind of air than people and animals do. Plants make their own food from water, sunlight, and the soil. Plants can’t talk. Plants don’t think. Plants usually make more plants, or reproduce, with seeds.

How are animals and plants the same? They both have body parts that do jobs. Animals eat food, but plants ‘eat’ sunlight with their leaves and ‘drink’with their roots. Animals grow from babies to adults, and plants grow from seeds to adults.

Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451. While spending most of his early years at sea, Columbus began to believe that he could find a shortcut to the Indies by sailing west across the Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately, the King of Portugal refused to finance such a trip, and Columbus was forced to present his idea to the King and Queen of Spain. In 1492, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella agrees to pay for his trip. They gave him a crew and three ships, The Niña, Pinta and Santa Maria. Columbus sailed aboard the Santa Maria.

The trip was long and hard. Many sailors were tired and wanted to turn around. After two months at sea, land was finally sighted. The ships docked on the island if Hispaniola. Columbus named the native people he saw “Indians”, because he believed he had found the shortcut he was looking for. Columbus actually found North America, a brand new continent at that time. Columbus, however, couldn’t be convinced. He died with the belief he had found the shortcut to the Indies. Soon, however, other explorers 9and nations understood the importance of his discoveries. Columbus’ discoveries set the stage for the Age of Exploration, one of the most exciting times in world history.
