2016 Division A Selection Guidelines

In Divisional Soccer (U11, U12, U14, and U16), teams are organized in tiers to provide a more balanced competitive/skill development environment. The highest tier (currently called Division A, but being revised) is a more competitive level of soccer, designed to provide an opportunity for more skilled players to play a more competitive schedule within the house league framework. It is still a house league program, with games on Saturday and one practice a week, with the possibility of a second if desired. All team members can expect to play at least half of each game. Each local club (Kelowna, Mission, Rutland, Westside and Lake Country) will try provide at least one Division A team at each age level. Final assignment of teams to tiers will be done in the spring once final numbers are known.

Coach Selection Guidelines

Coaches interested in head coaching positions for U11, U12, U14, and U16 Division A teams may apply for consideration on the Division A Coach Application form (see info under the Coaches tab). All current coaches will be notified by email, and info will be posted on our website. We also encourage coaches who don’t have children playing at that level to consider applying. From the applications submitted, a committee will shortlist and interview where necessary, and may spend time observing potential coaches in game/practice situations. From that process, head coaches will be appointed for each team. Assistant coaches will be appointed after the team selection in the fall by the head coach, on approval of the KYSA Board.

Timeline for Selection (all dates may be adjusted for specific age groups or circumstances) Aug. 15/15 – Coach application forms considered to be submitted Aug. 16- Sept. 15 -- Shortlisting, interviewing, and observation where required. Sept. 15 – Deadline for appointment of head coaches where possible.

The following criteria will be considered in selection of head coaches: --coaching experience and certification—our Div A coaches must have completed the appropriate BC Soccer level before the season begins --playing experience --coaching philosophy --communications with players, parents and referees --capability of their child playing at the Division A level

This information may be gathered from the application form, from personal interviews, and/or from observations of the coaches in game/practice situations. Player Selection Guidelines

For the 2015 season, at least one team per age group will be selected. Where numbers exist, the Board may consider adding a second team. Roster numbers for these teams will be as follows: U11 and U12 -- 14 players U14 – 16 -- 18 players

All current coaches in U10, U11, U12, U14 and U16 will be notified of the tryouts and asked to pass the information along to their players. All players in those divisions will be notified by email of the tryout criteria and schedule. Info will also be posted on the KYSA website. Tryouts will begin in late September. Tryouts are open to all current KYSA players, plus any other players living within KYSA boundaries. Players will be asked to register ahead of time to help us determine numbers and plan sessions. A non-refundable tryout fee of $20 will be charged. All players may participate in the first two tryouts, but depending on numbers, subsequent tryouts may be by invitation only. Players must attend at least one of the tryouts to be considered for these teams. Tryouts will be run by an independent panel of coaches, including the team’s head coach. At the conclusion of these tryouts, the 2016 rosters of these teams will be selected, except two spots will be reserved for final decisions in the spring. Candidates for those spots may be invited to tryouts as required.

The following criteria will be used in choosing players for this team: --soccer skills --physical fitness --understanding of the game --coachability --attitude/work ethic --positional preferences (eg goalkeepers) --commitment to the program (ie limited interference from other activities)
