Sawmill Manager Yreka, California

Fruit Growers Supply Company (FGS) has an immediate opening for an experienced Sawmill Manager to be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our new small-log sawmill located in Yreka, California. Will oversee all functions at the sawmill including procurement of timber, manufacturing, maintenance and employee/staffing matters.

Responsibilities will also include:  Implementation and enforcement of company policies and procedures;  Financial accountability for all activities, including budgeting and approving expenditures;  Completing all safety programs required by FGS and adhering to FGS safety guidelines;  Active engagement in all aspects of sawmill management including inventory forecasting, ordering of inventory, quoting new business, scheduling production, developing and overseeing production and quality control processes and shipment of finished lumber;  Developing and implementing tracking and reporting processes for all activities;  Directing/coordinating marketing and new business development activities;  Working closely with governmental agencies to ensure compliance to all applicable regulations;  Overseeing all aspects of operations and staffing, including health and safety, staff discipline, recruitment and training, compliance with company policies and links with the local community.  May at times be required to perform other duties as assigned and assist in duties of other positions.

It is important that the selected candidate be mindful of the role of timber as a renewable raw material and procure timber from legal sources that protect and sustain forests.

Desired qualifications include:  Four year degree in Forestry, Agriculture or Business or a related field; or equivalent related education and work experience.  Experience with a personal computer and skilled in the following software: Excel, Word, Publisher, Outlook, Kronos, SAP and Citrix.  Demonstrated ability to perform functions of a complex nature and strong verbal and written communication skills. Requires effective and frequent interaction on an individual and group basis.  A valid California driver’s license and a reliable automobile available for business use as necessary. May be required to travel.
