BOROUGH OF POOLE
NEWTOWN and PARKSTONE AREA COMMITTEE
19 JANUARY 2005
REPORT OF THE HEAD OF TRANSPORTATION SERVICES ON OBJECTIONS TO TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER – SANDBANKS ROAD
1 Matter for Consideration
1.1. To consider objections to the recent advertisement of proposed Orders to prohibit parking opposite Whitecliff Recreation Ground.
2. Recommendation
2.1 It is recommended that the Order be made as advertised.
3. Information
3.1 Orders have been recently advertised for waiting restrictions on the eastern side of Sandbanks Road between the existing restrictions north of Wedgewood Drive and opposite Turks Lane(see attached plan). The Traffic Panel recommendation on the initial request for the lines, reported to the Area Committee on 15 September 2004, is attached.
3.2 The closing date for objections is 13 January 2005. By 10 January, two representations had been received: one an objection and one in support. Any further representations will be reported verbally to the committee meeting. All representations received by 14 January have been copied directly to the committee members.
3.3 The Objector feels that the restrictions are unnecessary and will cause difficulties for residents of Dorset Lake Manor who are often forced to park on-street.
3.4 The letter of support asks for double yellow lines to be imposed on both sides of Sandbanks Road. A further advertisement would be required if yellow lines are to be imposed on both sides of the road.

Ward: Parkstone
Approval & Funding: Newtown, Parkstone & Penn Hill Area Committee
Request by: Local Residents
Nature of Request: Measures to prevent parking on both sides of Sandbanks Rd between Turks Lane and Whitecliff Rd. Background: Yellow lines were advertised here in Sept/Oct 2001. When considering objections, the Canford Cliffs, Parkstone and Penn Hill Area Committee resolved to shorten the proposed restrictions to protect the recently constructed pedestrian refuge and right turning lane. Members Comments: Cllr Mrs Stribley has suggested that yellow lines would best be applied to the eastern side of Sandbanks Rd. This would provide clear visibility for drivers using Wedgwood Drive etc. and permit a level of parking alongside the recreation ground.
Emergency Services Refuse No specific comments but they would normally support Collection Comment: measures that assist their access.
Traffic Panel Comments: Although there are concerns about traffic speeds in Sandbanks Road, the panel felt that it would be appropriate to restrict parking to only one side of the road here. The restrictions would be most appropriate on the residential side of the road, where they would also protect visibility from the Wedgewood Drive junction.
Recommendation: Impose waiting restrictions on the eastern side of Sandbanks Road to join the existing restrictions north of Wedgewood Drive and opposite Turks Lane, as shown on Drg TP357
Estimated Cost: £1.000
Priority: Capacity
Likely Objectors: Not all residents will support the restrictions
