The Los Angeles Writing Project is sponsoring a Young Writers’ Camp that will consist of a six-session winter program for young writers in grades 3-12. It will be an extension of our very popular and successful summer program. If you are interested in signing your child up so they can develop their writing skills and be exposed to a variety of writing styles, please fill out the registration form attached.

Students Entering Grades 1st7th This course will introduce students to the strategies of professional writers and to a variety of writing forms. Students will write short stories, poetry, memoirs, and keep a daily journal. The writers will participate in Author's Chair sessions that will give each student an opportunity to receive feedback from their peers and teacher. Writing workshops are also blended with activities in other creative arts, including drama, music, drawing, and painting. As a culminating project, students will create a digital portfolio that will showcase all of the writings completed during the course.

Students Entering Grades 8th12th Student writers will focus on essay and creative writing. In essay writing, the focus will be on brainstorming, outlines, paragraph structure, thesis statements, supporting ideas, and closing paragraphs (students’ essay writing assignments from school will be utilized during the class.) Creative writing will focus on novelettes, poetry, memoirs, and journaling from video writing prompts. Other writing activities include author study sessions and writing groups. As a culminating project, students will create a digital portfolio that will showcase all of the writings completed during the course.
