Glasgow City Council Education Services: Improvement Planning 1a Our vision, values and aims Our Vision: Within the community of St Albert’s we will be engaged in the pursuit of excellent attainment and achievement, providing the best possible learning experiences for our children. We want to ensure our children are healthy, active, nurtured, included and respected. Our vision is to create an environment where all stakeholders feel valued, safe and secure. A school where learning for everyone is fun and children are challenged and encouraged to become successful learners, responsible citizens, effective contributors and confident individuals. The achievement of this vision will be enabled by working in partnership with parents, carers, clergy of St Albert’s, external agencies and the local and wider community, in a multi cultural, multi faith society.

Our Values: The shared values of our school underpin everything that matters to us as a community of learners.

 The Charter for Scotland’s Catholic Schools.  Every stakeholder of St Albert’s is special and unique with their own talents and skills.  St Albert’s learning partnership strives to nurture an ethos of respect, honesty, wisdom, integrity and justice for all.  Pupil participation in the life of the school is recognised, where rights and responsibilities are taken into consideration and are appropriate to the decision making process.

Our Aims: embrace the school’s vision and values and are linked to our school improvement plan. To  Continue to provide a motivating and stimulating environment conducive to effective learning and teaching  Continue to raise levels of attainment and achievement  Continue to implement the Curriculum for Excellence  To remove inequality, celebrate social and cultural diversity and promote social justice and inclusion.  To build effective partnerships with parents, carers, the local and the wider community and to recognise our role in global issues.  To continue to foster health promoting strategies  To make St Albert’s the best school possible.

Glasgow City Council Education Services: Improvement Planning 1b How our vision, values and aims were developed and how our stakeholders were consulted

The vision, values and aims of St Albert’s Primary have been developed in full consultation with staff, pupils, and parents and carers.

Staff were fully involved in the shaping and creation of the vision, underpinned by values and aims of the school. A presentation was delivered to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of a school’s vision, values and aims. The vision statement, and set of values and aims were further highlighted by means of discussion, handouts and support materials. Staff members then worked in groups to set out their ideas for suitable vision, values and aims for St Albert’s Primary. The work was recorded and collated by SMT.

Pupils became involved via their Pupil Council representatives. A child friendly presentation was given to the pupils to explain the meaning of vision, values and aims. Pupils then discussed the kind of school they would like to have, there expectations and wishes for the future. They then completed a questionnaire. All their ideas were then collated to be considered alongside the views of staff.

Parents from across the school parents were invited to a workshop designed to discuss their vision for the school as well as the values and aims. A presentation to clarify the nature of these three areas was delivered to parents along with the already collated ideas of staff and pupils. Parents worked in groups to discuss each of the three areas. The parent group agreed with the results from staff and pupils and recognised the key role that they play in supporting the school.

Glasgow City Council Education Services: Improvement Planning 2. Summary of self evaluation process

How we carried out our self-evaluation and involved our stakeholders

Our self evaluation and auditing process began in August 2009 when the new Headteacher asked staff to complete a strengths and development needs questionnaire. Staff were asked to give their opinion of the service provided and things we could improve. Teaching staff were involved in a shadowing programme; sharing good practice within their classrooms and across the school. The leader of learning also supported staff in developing Active Learning approaches and AiFL strategies enabling staff to evaluate their own practice. A number of staff also attended Open Doors events.

All staff have been involved in evaluating and developing areas identified as school priorities. Through involvement in School Improvement Plan focus groups and through distributed leadership in Eco and Enterprise, staff have taken ownership and progressed the priorities for development. This has enabled staff to take a strategic approach.

The school improvement plan is based on the results of an audit carried out in March 10 using Glasgow City Council’s TACLE materials, Health Promotion accreditation feedback as well as SIP focus group evaluations and audits, our teacher and support staff meeting minutes, the evaluations of our ECO group, pupil and parent council, feedback from parent workshops and the ongoing Quality Assurance procedures and feedback. The strengths and areas of which inform our Standard and Quality Report June 10.

All staff were involved in evaluation of practice across the curriculum with particular reference to 2009-2010 priorities using HGIOS 3. This resulted in recording the school’s very good progress in achieving its targets in writing and mathematics, meeting the needs of all pupils and identifying next steps for SIP 2010-11. This year our attainment in reading has dipped and this has resulted in reading being given a priority in next session’s School Improvement Plan.

SMT has the responsibility to influence the self evaluation process. This has been achieved by:

Applying the school’s monitoring policy Leading focus groups

Leading consultation and tracking meetings Evaluating pupils learning experiences

Local and wider community links were established, World Book Day, World of Work Day, Mother’s Day event, Health, Eco, Enterprise weeks. A programme of Parental workshops were also established. All stakeholders were asked to complete evaluations of events to measure impact on children’s experiences.
