Topic Area Overview of Discussion Member Action / Follow-up Call to Order Bill Mitchell welcomed all and called the meeting to order at 10:05 a.m. In Person: Bill Mitchell, Van DoReynoso, Kathleen Grassi, Becky Nanyonjo, Alvaro Garza, David Luchini, Tim Livermore, Marlene Bengiamin, Donna DeRoo, Ashley Hart. By Phone: KarenMonday, Haught, BethJune Gazarek, 23rd, 2014, Keith 10:00 Winkler, a.m. Ken – 1:30 Bird. p.m. Approval of Minutes The minutes from 4-28-14 were approvedMeeting by Minutes consensus. Action Items TCE Work Plan and Bill Mitchell explained that the MAPP training is scheduled for July 21st in Next Steps Merced and 22nd in Visalia. There are currently no open spots for the Merced training and only 5 spots left for the Visalia training. The members explained their rationale for inviting various participants to the MAPP training. The members were very excited for the opportunity for a Consortium specific MAPP training.

Marlene explained that the Health Policy Leadership Program started on Friday, June 20th with 12 participants from the health departments and we committed to send 16 people from the Consortium. Van explained that they have a community partner who was interested and Marlene replied that it would be possible. The TCE grant would prefer to have health department members, but we can likely accommodate community partners as well. Marlene explained that they receive their required readings two weeks prior to the training and everyone was excited to participate. Dr. Garza suggested that the participants attend the advisory committee to the Office of Health Equity. Epidemiologist Project Marlene introduced the epidemiologist project and that they have met two -Ashley send information about Update times. Emanuel Alcala sent a table to the epidemiologists summarizing the Consortium and data reports to variables and data sources and explained that they are focusing five health Becky Nanayonjo and Dr. outcomes. They are trying to determine a walkability score for various Garza areas in the valley and have been in contact with researchers at UC Berkeley. They are also looking at the EPA website that includes indicators that can try to get at land use. They are looking at neighborhood outcomes at the zip code area. Kathleen asked about chronic disease and what health issues they would be reviewing. Emanuel explained that they are looking at obesity and diabetes. Bill explained that the issue papers will be used within their counties for various informative activities and suggested that they be written in plain language and not in academic language. Marlene explained that Dr. Rahman is a health economist at Fresno State and he will be looking at the impact of health within the valley. Kathleen discussed the need for health economic data and is excited to use this data for other issues. Dr. Garza asked about pesticides and Emanuel replied that they will be using a variable with this information included within it. They will be using this information to predict health outcomes over time in various areas using the CalEnviroScreen.
