This course is designed for students with interest in advance learning in the Earth Science field. The course will emphasize Hydrology/Environmental Science, Meteorology, Historical Geology, and Cartography. Particular attention is paid to the study of the geomorphology of Missouri and maps. The objective of this course is to develop awareness of the physical processes that have and will shape our Earth and humanity’s effect on these processes.
This course may be taken as dual-enrollment through Missouri Baptist University. It is worth 5 hours of college credit (3 lecture/2 lab). It transfers easily to Mizzou, Drury, etc. It is offered at a discounted price (around $300 instead of $700-$800). More info about this to come in the following weeks.
GRADING SCALE 94-100% = A 90-93% = A- 87-89% = B+ 84-86% = B 80-83% = B- 77-79% = C+ 74-76% = C 70-73% = C- 67-69% = D+ 64-66% = D 60-63% = D- Below 60% = F
CLASSROOM RULES: 1. Being RESPONSIBLE within the classroom means: Be reliable in your attendance Be reliable and diligent in doing your work Be honest and honorable at all times in the classroom 2. Being RESPECTFUL of the teacher and others in the class means: Be polite and quiet in the classroom Be considerate of all individuals in the class Speak appropriately to everyone in the class Be cooperative with everyone in the class 3. Being READY to learn at all times in the class means: Bring all necessary items daily: pen/pencil; paper; calculator; book Actively participate in classroom discussions, activities and labs Arrive on time to start each class period Be alert and undistracted by electronic devices in the classroom CLASS PERFORMANCE: 1. It is your grade – you are responsible for assignments, work, tests, and projects. 2. For full credit, turn in work that has been assigned during the week by Friday of that week. This means that if you want full credit on assignments turn them in when they are due!!! 3. If you are experiencing difficulty in class, please stay after class and talk to me. I will meet you half-way and help anyway I can. How can I know you are having trouble if you don’t tell me you are?
EXPECTATIONS: 1. I expect you to be on time everyday. (READY) 2. I expect you not to whine – you are big people and I expect you to act like it. (RESPECTFUL) 3. This class in not a requirement, therefore, don’t expect to pass without earning a passing grade. (RESPONSIBLE) 4. I assign lots of work, I expect you to complete it. (RESPONSIBLE) 5. I expect you to challenge yourself. (READY) 6. I expect you to use appropriate language (no profanity) and actions (no vulgarity). (RESPECTFUL) 7. I expect you to not bring electronic devices to class (or use them in any way). (READY) 8. I expect you to be respectful and not talk when others (including me) are talking. (RESPECTFUL) 9. I expect you to be responsible and get the assignments you missed the day you come back from being absent (including school sponsored events). (RESPONSIBLE) 10. I expect you to be prepared to learn a lot about yourself and your influence on the Earth. (REPONSIBLE AND READY)
