Journal #3 – 1/31/10 Over the last few days I have noticed my CT using a strategy I first learned about in my Children’s Literature class, using sticky notes. My CT uses sticky notes on almost everything he writes on, including lesson plans and even his daily planner. Since my CT has been teaching for many years, he has most of his lesson plans already written or typed out for him to use. Instead of re-writing out his plans when he needs to add a small detail, he simply writes out what he needs to remember on a sticky note and attaches it to the plan. He has even gotten to a point in his teaching career where he has written so much information on the sticky notes that he can teach all of his lessons by the notes alone. At this point in my student teaching I think this is a very helpful strategy for me to learn from and for me to use in my own teaching. Especially during my first few weeks of planning for this semester, my CT’s notes will help me prepare for things I wouldn’t necessarily plan for my first time teaching a new lesson. Sticky notes are very easy to carry around and are very versatile so that they can be used in a variety of situations. I think it’s important for me to realize that I don’t always need the best or the newest technology to be successful in the classroom. Sometimes a simple sticky piece of paper is all it takes to get the job done.
