Job Title: Minister for Congregational Life

Position Description

St James is at the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in its distinguished history. We are looking for a person of outstanding qualities who can help shape our future. This is a position which requires a broad range of skills and gifts. There are particular responsibilities in the areas of Christian Formation, Education and Pastoral care and there is also scope for the successful candidate to initiate and develop new projects.

Job Summary

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and oversee faith formation at St. James, including adult education, Bible studies and baptism preparation and ensure that regular communication goes out to the congregation. • Create and support adult education programs that develop and call upon the leadership and ministry of parishioners • Develop and promote faith formation and fellowship to support active parishioners and to attract new people to St. James • Be responsible for initiating and developing a new service to cater to the needs of those not currently attending our services • Share in the liturgical and preaching responsibilities as assigned by the Rector • Provide clergy support to the youth and children programs as determined in collaboration with the Directors of Youth and Children’s Ministries, and the Rector • Pastoral responsibilities as assigned by the Rector • Developing, planning and evaluating worship in collaboration with the Rector and others • Prepare for, preach, and preside at weddings, funerals, and baptisms • Participate in weekly staff meetings • Participate in monthly Vestry meetings • Participate in parish activities and fellowship events • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Rector

• Report to and work directly with the Rector • Serve as the primary contact for Vestry and parish members regarding Education and Formation

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Support the leadership of the Rector and Vestry as they strive to empower the ministry of the congregation • Ability to work effectively and in collaboration with the church staff and lay leaders • Committed team player in all aspects of parish life • High energy and initiative coupled with excellent communication skills • Excellent preacher who can connect the Gospel to people’s lives • Experience with parish program development • Creative liturgist who can help develop alternative worship service(s) • Aptitude with social media and online communication • Responsive to the needs of others • Strong interpersonal skills • Effective communicator

Required Education and/or Experience:

• Ordained and licensed Episcopal Priest in good standing, with a passion to serve • 2-3 years ordained ministry preferred • “Safeguarding God’s People” training

Part Time / Full Time: Full time

Salary: $65,000

Housing: Housing will be provided. The nature of the provision will depend on the circumstances of the successful candidate.

Exemption Status: Exempt

Healthcare Eligibility: Eligible to participate in the current benefit package.
