Title: Library Shelver

Grade: National minimum wage

Responsible to: Head of Library Services

Directly supervised by: Reader Services Librarian

Job Summary

To facilitate the efficient circulation of library stock by ensuring that used books are returned to the shelves, and that the books already on the shelves are tidy and in the correct order. The hours will be worked in daytime shifts of 2 hours.

Detailed Responsibilities

1 To shelve books and other materials according to the classification systems and sequences used in the Library. 2 To tidy the book shelves and ensure that items are in the correct order. 3 To clear study tables of books and re-shelve them. 4 To comply with the University’s Health and Safety Policy, legislation and practice. 5 To maintain professional standards in relationships, including non discriminatory practices. 6 The post-holder must operate within the guidelines, procedures and regulations of Bishop Grosseteste University. 7 The post-holder must operate within the University’s Financial Regulations, Diversity and Equality Policy, Race Equality Policy and other relevant policies.

Please note that this post involves the lifting and carrying of books and the maneuvering of trolleys, some of which may be heavy. Guidance on manual handling will be provided.
