Instructor: Mr. Melrose Email: [email protected] Course: English Edge C Room: 518 Credits: 10 total, 5 English / 5 elective Course Overview: This course is designed to build student literacy skills. The Inside Reading Program emphasizes vocabulary development, reading comprehension strategies, reading fluency, and writing skills. Classroom Rules: Respect encompasses all rules. I expect you to respect yourself, each other and school property. 1. Follow teacher directions the first time. 2. Before the tardy bell rings, sit in your assigned seat and be ready to work. Referral will be written following every 4th tardy per semester (see student handbook) 3. Raise your hand before speaking. 4. No bullying, put-downs, or using profane language (PBIS). 5. Absolutely no talking when the teacher is talking. 6. No personal electronic devices may be used during class time, unless given permission by me. You may not charge your cell phone in class. 7. Shortly before the end of the period, I will allow you to put books away. After, please return to your assigned seats until the bell rings. Negative Consequences for Breaking Classroom Rules: First offense: Verbal warning Second offense: Student/Teacher conference Third offense: Parent Contact Fourth offense: Referral to Asst. Principal, parents called in for meeting.

Grade breakdown: • Formative Assessments (class work, notes, group projects, quizzes, homework) 40% • Summative Assessments (projects, presentations, tests, labs, final exam) 60%
