Hardwick, Clemmons, Barfield and Hearn 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\gm\25035sd12.docx 11 12 Introduced in the House on April 24, 2012 13 Adopted by the House on April 24, 2012 14 15 Summary: Jarrod Danka 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 4/24/2012 House Introduced and adopted ( House Journalpage 10) 22 23 24 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 25 26 4/24/2012 27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JARROD DANKA IN HIS 12 COURAGEOUS STRUGGLES AGAINST KIDNEY DISEASE, 13 AND TO COMMEND THE EFFORTS OF JARROD DANKA 14 DAY IN MYRTLE BEACH TO RAISE FUNDS TO PROVIDE 15 HIM WITH A VITAL KIDNEY TRANSPLANT. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 18 Representatives realize the precious capital of our great State is in 19 the lives of our youth, a valuable resource which we hold in 20 stewardship; and 21 22 Whereas, while seventythree thousand people remain on the active 23 waiting list for a kidney transplant at this moment, only 24 twentyseven thousand people received a donated kidney in 2011; 25 and 26 27 Whereas, one elevenyearold South Carolinian, Jarrod Danka, was 28 born with two forms of kidney disease and received a kidney 29 transplant in 2009; and 30 31 Whereas, in 2010, that transplanted kidney began to fail, and now 32 a second transplant will be required to restore his childhood, or he 33 will face a lifetime in hospitals on dialysis; and 34 35 Whereas, a talented “straight A” student, Jarrod has learned at his 36 young age to serve others despite his own struggles, which he does 37 by helping to provide food and clothing for the homeless and by 38 donating his toys to the Ronald McDonald House and Children’s 39 Hospital at the University of North Carolina; and 40 41 Whereas, Jarrod and his twin sister, Devon, are the children of 42 Tracy and Edward Danka of Myrtle Beach; and
[5156] 2 1 2 Whereas, organ transplants are extremely expensive, and the 3 Danka family does not have the resources to cover the expenses 4 that insurance does not pay; and 5 6 Whereas, on Jarrod Danka Day in Myrtle Beach on April 27, 2012, 7 a special fundraiser for the Jarrod Danka Transplant Fund will be 8 held at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel and the adjacent Plyler Park, 9 where a silent auction will feature products and services donated 10 by local businesses and local DJs will play beach music and dance 11 favorites for all ages; and 12 13 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 14 Representatives encourage residents and businesses throughout the 15 Grand Strand and across the State to support the efforts of the 16 special fundraiser for Jarrod Danka at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel. 17 Now, therefore, 18 19 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 20 21 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 22 by this resolution, recognize and honor Jarrod Danka in his 23 courageous struggles against kidney disease, and commend the 24 efforts of Jarrod Danka Day in Myrtle Beach to raise funds to 25 provide him with a vital kidney transplant. 26 27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 28 the Danka family. 29 XX 30
