A. INITIAL SETUP
1. Turn on the camera and press the Home button. (The Home button is located on the camera body.) 2. Press the Recording Standard button. Choose AVCHD and press okay. 3. From the Home Screen, press Other Settings. At the top of the screen you will see three tabs. Press the middle Filmstrip tab. 4. Press the Recording Mode option and choose a recording mode (MXP, FXP, XP+). 5. Press the Frame Rate option and choose 60i.
B. MANUAL FUNCTIONS (Shutter Speed, Aperture, White Balance, Focus, Microphone Control
Setting Up Camera to Record in Manual Mode Press the Home button. From the Home Screen press Camera Mode. Press the M tab to select Manual Mode and then press OK.
Selecting a Recording Program Press the FUNC. key. (It is located in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.) Press Rec. Programs button to choose a shooting mode. (I.e. P —the camcorder will automatically adjust the aperture and shutter speed.). You can also choose to record in Tv (Shutter Priority w/ automatic exposure) or Av (Aperture Priority w/automatic exposure). Click on the X in right hand corner to exit this menu.
Note: >Lower shutter speeds can be used for lower-light situations while higher shutter speeds can be used for fast moving subjects. >Lower aperture values will focus on subjects in the foreground and blur out your background, while larger aperture values will allow the entire image to be in focus.
Setting the White Balance Press the FUNC. key and then press the WB button (White Balance) and select the Custom WB option. Point the camcorder at a white object (white sheet of paper) and press the Set WB button. When the adjustment is complete, the icon will stop flashing. Make sure to reset your White Balance each time your lighting conditions change.. Click on the X in right hand corner to exit this menu.
Manual Focus It is highly recommended to set your focus to Manual Focus. There are two ways of working with Manual Focus.
Frame Focus Press the FUNC. key. Press Focus and choose MF (manual focus). Touch a subject that you wish to focus on. The camera will automatically focus on your chosen subject. Click on the X in right hand corner to exit this menu.
Focusing w/ distance meter Press the FUNC. key and then press Focus and choose MF (manual focus). Press and hold the infinite or macro button. The screen will go into Focus Assistance mode and zoom in on your subject, allowing you to fine tune and set your focus. Click on the X in right hand corner to exit this menu.
Manually Adjusting the Microphone Level Press the FUNC. key and then press the Mic. Level button. Press the M button to adjust the Mic. Level manually. Press the Arrow keys to raise and lower the microphone level. VIEWING AND TRANSFERING FILES
Playback and Deleting Files 1. To view your files press the Playback button on the camera. (The Playback button is above the Battery Release latch on the side of the camera.) 2. Push on the file you wish to view. Push the screen again to bring up the VTR menu. This menu will allow you to Start, Stop, Pause, Rewind, and Fast-forward your clip. 3. To delete a clip push the Edit button and choose Delete.
Transferring files to a PC 1. To transfer your files to a PC, plug in the USB cable to both devices and press the Playback button on the camera. A portable drive icon will appear on your computer’s desktop. 2. Copy the Private file to an external hard drive. 3. Eject the camera from your computer. 4. You are now ready to import your files into Premiere and begin editing.
Note: You may wish to create a backup of your footage on another drive before deleting any files from the camera.
