Current Appointment – Faculty Associate ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY – School of Theatre and Film

Fundamentals of Acting (Fall 2011) Duties include teaching 3 weekly sessions to undergraduate theatre majors. Developed syllabus to include: breath & voice work (Fitzmaurice & Rodenberg), warm-up, strength/flexibility training (Connected Motion), improvisation and movement (Viewpoints, Rasaboxes), scene study/monologues (Meisner), audition techniques and practice. The objective of this course is to provide basic foundational skills and awareness in acting, movement, and voice in an effort to unite the performer’s whole instrument.

Introduction to Voice (Fall 2011) Promoting vocal awareness and encouraging the release of tension in order to explore sound, action, and the combination of both. Focus on daily warm-up and breath work (Fitzmaurice), sound and resonance exploration (Rodenberg, Linklater), vocal and physical improvisation (‘Omnish’), and articulation/diction (Dudley Knight). Instruction in International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Course also includes a unit on singing for the actor. The objective for this course is to lay a solid foundation in order for the actors to proceed into more advanced voice and acting work with a free and supported instrument.

ACTORS CO-OP – Actors Co-op Training Studio (Knoxville, TN) Instructor – Acting I and II / Voice for the Actor (2002 – 2008) Duties included teaching 1 weekly session for period of 6 weeks to studio students. Class covered: acting fundamentals, scene work (Meisner), voice production and health, speaking skills, IPA, basic Viewpoints, Suzuki, and Tai Chi. Amy Hubbard – Artistic Director.

PRIVATE COACHING – Tennessee, Arizona (1997 – present) Private instructor in voice, singing, and acting. Coaching includes: basic breath work and voice production, placement and vowel modification for the singer, vocal health, assistance with monologues, text work, and public speaking.

 Freeing the Singing Voice – (2010) Linklater workshop led by Amelia Broome aimed at singers and singing actors.

 Breathing with your whole self – (2010) Feldenkrais workshop with focus on foundational techniques and refresher techniques for those away from the practice. Taught by Robin McNair and Maria del Carmen Cortes.

 Welcome to my language – (2010) Bi-lingual workshop dedicated to finding resonant nuances in a language other than your own. Taught by Leslie Ishii and Stacey Cole.

 Transsexual and Transgender Voice Modification and Presentation – (2010) Discussion/workshop with Rebecca Root (Central School of Speech & Drama) demonstrating some of the methods applied in helping transsexual people find a vocal quality appropriate to their identified gender.

 Audiobooks: A re-focusing of techniques to fit a burgeoning hybrid industry – (2010) Workshop with Robin Miles to learn tools about using our voices in a way that fits the growing audio book industry.

 Fitzmaurice Voicework: Reach Into the Human Mind & Emotions – (2010) Workshop with Paula Andrea Ramirez Bustamante to explore the relationship between Fitzmaurice Voicework and the Autonomic Nervous Systerm.

 The Global Cabaret – Tempe, AZ (2009 – present) Co-founder of a recurring, mobile variety show featuring both live and distributed performers of culturally specific song and spoken word.

 Sara Schwabe & Her Yankee Jass Band (2004 – present) Leader and co-founder of this sought after touring jazz ensemble performing music using Scat and improvisation techniques.
