To compete in the internal competition for the NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program, please complete the information and questions below, with responses to all of the items/questions not to exceed 5 pages, single-spaced, 11pt font, 1” margins.

In addition to addressing the questions below, please provide as an attachment, a one-page NSF project summary and NSF 2-page biographical sketches for the PI and each of the 4 named co-PIs (biosketches for the senior personnel are not required).

Please submit the required materials via the CRPDE website (address) by 5pm by January 23, 2012. PDF files are preferred but Microsoft Word files are also accepted. Postscript and LaTeX formats must be converted to PDFs.

These internal proposals are limited to 10 pages, using the following format: 1. List of participating faculty (suggested: 1 page) – follow the format from the IGERT solicitation

2. Vision, Goals, and Thematic Basis (suggested: 1 page) – address what is asked for in the IGERT solicitation

3. Major Research Efforts (suggested: 2 pages) – address what is asked for in the IGERT solicitation

4. Education & Training (suggested: 2 pages) – address what is asked for in the IGERT solicitation

5. Innovation (suggested: 1 page) – this is a new requirement for the IGERT program: Discuss plans to develop and foster a supportive environment for innovation and plans for integrating training in skills important for discovery, recognition of societal challenges and their relationships to one's own research, creativity and inventiveness, and the processes involved in transforming their ideas and discoveries into successfully implementable solutions (as appropriate to the project topic) to societal challenges, into the interdisciplinary research and educational plans, drawing upon the relevant literature.

6. Plan for actively broadening participation and recruiting from diverse groups (suggested: 1 page) – see IGERT solicitation for guidance

7. Management (suggested: 1 page) – Describe plans and procedures for the organization and management of the IGERT program. Plans must include provision for an external advisory body.

8. What makes this IGERT particularly competitive and/or unique (suggested: 1 page) – utilize this single page to describe why this IGERT program should be selected to represent OU and why it will be competitive among all the prior and currently active IGERTs
