Are You Aware of the North Carolina Tuition Waiver Program? Under the North Carolina law, UNC System institutions and North Carolina Community Colleges shall permit certain individuals to attend classes for credit or noncredit purposes without paying the required tuition. The individuals eligible for this tuition waiver include survivors (including children) of a law enforcement officer killed as a direct result of a traumatic injury sustained in the line of duty, and children (between ages 17 and 23 years of age) whose parent is a law enforcement officer who is permanently and totally disabled as a direct result of a traumatic injury sustained in the line of duty. 46. Alamance County Cattlemen’s Association is going to award $1,000 scholarships to students in need that are pursuing an education in an agricultural related field. Agriculture fields may include forestry, horticulture, animal science, etc. Applications are available in guidance. Application deadline is Monday, March 13, 2016. 47. 2016 “People Helping People Scholarship Informational Sheets are now available in Guidance. There is no formal application for this scholarship. All graduating seniors meeting the criteria are eligible for consideration (see Informational Sheet). “Although the SECU “People Helping People Scholarship Program wishes to recognize academic achievement, the ‘People Helping People’ Scholarship has a much broader purpose: recognizing leadership and community service.” Eastern’s scholarship committee will select the recipient of this award. The decision of the scholarship committee will be final. To assist the scholarship committee in choosing the student who best exemplifies the membership philosophy of “People Helping People,” please complete the following:

1. Identify (in a brief essay – no more than one page) what you have done to reflect the PURPOSE of this scholarship – and your personal growth from the experience(s).

2. Attach a resume with your essay.

3. Return your Informational sheet, your essay and resume to Ms Hooker in Guidance by March 11, 2016.

48. The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program wants to help those who put forth the effort and find success both in and out the classroom, yet are unable to attend college without financial assistance. The following are encouraged to apply:

 High school seniors and current undergraduates.

 Those who plan to enroll full time at a four-year college or university in 2016-17

49. The Officers and Directors of First Savings and Loan Association of Mebane, North Carolina invite High School Graduates of Eastern Alamance, Mebane, North Carolina To Apply For A First Savings and Loan Association Scholarship. The value of the First Savings and Loan Scholarships shall be: $4,000.00 to be paid $1,000.00 per year. Two recipients shall be chosen from the graduating class of Eastern Alamance High School. Recipients must meet the requirements for admission to the school of their choice. The qualifications on which the First Savings & Loan Scholarship Committee will base its selection are as follows:

(a) Scholastic ability and attainments.

(b) Evidence of moral force of character and capacity to lead, devotion to duty, truthfulness, courage, unselfishness and fellowship.

(c) Thrift habits as evidenced by a systematic savings plan such as is offered by a Savings and Loan Association, a bank, an educational endowment, or an investment in some project to create funds for college expenses. Also pre-college financial preparation by the student’s parents will be given consideration.

The applicant’s financial need is not set out as a qualification, however, it is felt that the Committee should take this into consideration if two or more applicants are judged equal in all other qualifications. The Burlington Woman's Club is offering two scholarships in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars ($1500.00) each to deserving 2016 graduates of Alamance-Burlington high schools.

Scholarship Requirements:

 Students must be attending a 4 year college/university  Schools may consider Sally Southall Cotten candidates  Schools with 250 or less in the senior class may submit up to 2 applications  Schools with 251 or more seniors may submit up to 3 applications

Students should compile all of the required documents specified below and submit this package to Ms Hooker in Guidance for consideration by the scholarship committee by March 10, 2016.

The following criteria will be used to determine a winner:

1. Academics-top 25% of class according to current transcript

2. Recommendations from two teachers

3. Essay (one page maximum) to include personal goals and ambitions

4. Vita of extracurricular activities, including church, school and community

5. Brief statement of financial need; other scholarships applied for and /or received

6. Signed copy (by parent and student) of submitted FAFSA (Student Aid Report) SAR

7. Copy of SAT/ACT score report

8. Acceptance letter from a four year college or university

The check for the scholarship will be made jointly to the student and the college. The student will endorse the check and forward it to the college or university.

51. Golden Leaf Scholarship Program will award up to 215 grants, each valued at $12,000 ($3,000 per year) for up to four years) for the 2016-17 academic year. These scholarships are made possible through a grant from Golden LEAF Foundation. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must:

 Be enrolled during the 2015-16 academic year at a North Carolina public or private high school or a North Carolina community college.  Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes.  Reside in one of 78 qualifying counties (Leaflet in Scholarship drawer or visit www.CFNC.org/goldenleaf).  Enroll at a qualifying UNC institution, or a North Carolina private non-profit college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student in the Fall of 2016 (Leaflet in Scholarship drawer or visit www.CFNC.org/goldenleaf)  Demonstrate financial need. Students MUST submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for this scholarship.  Present a satisfactory record of academic achievement and community service. Extracurricular activities and information provided in a brief essay submitted by the applicant may be considered in determining recipients.  Submit an application. The Golden LEAF Scholarship application is available at www.CFNC.org/goldenleaf. The application deadline is March 1, 2016. 52. Shell Oil Company Technical Scholarship - $2,500 (20 awards). Deadline: March 3, 2016 To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: Be a graduating high school senior enrolling in engineering or geosciences. Upon successful completion of first year studies and other criteria established by Shell, the recipient may be eligible to apply to receive a four-year renewable award of $5,000 annually. 53. American Foreign Service Association Scholarship - $5,000 (77 awards). Deadline: March 6, 2016 To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:  Be a high school senior (or in their last year of high school) graduating in 2016.  Be a child of a Foreign Services employee  Maintain a satisfactory academic record (cumulative 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale)

54. Signet Classics Student Scholarship - $1,000 – 1 award (Deadline: April 14, 2016

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: Be a student in 11th or 12th grade and be a full-time matriculated student who is attending a high school located in the fifty United States and the District of Columbia. Global Lift Equipment Scholarship - $500 1 Award (Deadline: June 15, 2016) To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:  Be currently attending or planning on attending a post-secondary institution in Canada or the US by no later than the Fall of 2016.  Submit a short story. SP Scholarship - $10,000 – 10 Awards (Deadline: June 15, 2016) To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:  Be at least 13 years old and enrolled or will enroll in a college or university in the US.  A legal resident of the U.S. or Puerto Rico. The Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Alpha Chapter Scholarship is for a high school senior who plans to major in education at the college/university level. The recipient will be selected on the basis of desire to become a teacher, demonstrated scholarship ability, character, and leadership. The North Carolina Bar Association Endowment Fund is a scholarship program for high school seniors who are children of North Carolina Law Enforcement Officers who were killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. 66. WHITLOW-OSBORNE SCHOLARSHIP administered by the North Carolina Association of Rescue & Emergency Medical Services, Inc. Students must enter into an Emergency Services Curriculum. Scholarship is available to High School Seniors or Members of an Emergency Services organization in Alamance County. Applications are available in Guidance. Application deadline is March 31, 2016. 67. Alamance County Mayors’ Committee for Persons with Disabilities JANE D. MCPHERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. The Alamance County Mayors’ Committee for Persons with Disabilities is offering the Jane D. McPherson Memorial Scholarship to an eligible senior with a qualified disability who wishes to further their education beyond high school. Applications are available in Guidance. 70. The Alamance County Farm Bureau Scholarship Program. This scholarship is valued at $1,000 per calendar year or academic year and is renewable for three successive academic years. The maximum amount of the scholarship will be $4,000 over a four year period. Eligibility criteria and applications are available in Guidance. Application deadline is April 15, 2016.

71. American Legion Scholarship. The Mebane American Legion Post 95 presents Two (2) $1,000 scholarships to area students attending an institution of higher learning. Applications are available in guidance. Completed applications are due to Ms Hooker in Guidance by March 31, 2016.

74. The 2016 SACAC Extend the Dream Student Scholarship application is now available online. This year students may mail applications or submit online applications.
