Academic Advisor II

Purpose

Purpose: Responsible for understanding and interpreting the needs of specific populations of students to administrators; for interpreting, formulating and evaluating institutional rules for students; and for facilitating exchange of academic information in the Department of Psychology. Essential Functions

Function 1: Advise freshman, transfer and continuing students with course planning and selection, including but not limited to, degree plan preparation, filing, and prerequisite verification. 70 % Time Function 2: Add/drop students from classes/provide permission to students for research classes, monitor undergraduate student progress and notify students not meeting COS standards, Audit graduation candidates and make necessary substitutions on degree audits in MyMav. 10 % Time Function 3: Mentor Psi Chi and PSYC Society officers, communicate information to all undergraduate psychology students, meet with prospective students. 10 % Time Function 4: Work with Associate Chair on class schedule offering each semester, attend undergraduate curriculum meetings to provide student perspective when discussing changes to curriculum, participate in graduation ceremony ? fall and spring. 10 % Time Function 5: % Time Function 6: % Time Function 7: % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years experience working with college students or adolescents in an academic counseling capacity. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to use tact, diplomacy and judgement in dealing with students, faculty, and administrators. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience my be substituted as appropriate.
