Dan Urenda Chairman, Aerie of the Year 726 Acero Avenue Pueblo, CO 81004

Brother Urenda:

Over the past three years, our Aerie has overcome some horrendous obstacles. An agent from the Grand Aerie was sent to possibly suspend our charter. Instead, however, he guided us to get officers in place and work on getting finances in order. At that time, our bank accounts were attached by the IRS. We couldn’t get members to attend meetings or hold office.

Over time, we have been able to once again pay bills on time, thus avoiding the late charges that had been accruing. All back taxes are paid and we are now current. Many members stepped up with donations of personal funds to help out. Through the diligent efforts of the membership, monies were raised by holding functions. Endless hours were donated working to get our books in order. A financial committee was formed to monitor funds. Building insurance premiums have been reduced by almost 50%! We are proud to say we now have bank accounts built back up and are current with our obligations.

New members stepped up and offered to take an office thus filling all Aerie chairs! And those officers have done a phenomenal job of supporting 3226. Functions are held regularly and attendance is up! Our basement is rented out for community meetings, weddings, receptions and other occasions. We sponsor a local girls’ softball team and they help serve food at our dinners, especially our Anniversary celebration!

We have had water breaks, refrigerator and other repairs to our Aerie home. Members have volunteered their time and funds to keep our building maintained. All work is done by volunteers – maintenance, bartending, yard upkeep, janitorial, etc.

Thornton is proud to be currently represented at State by three officers, one Aerie and two Auxiliary. Another Aerie member is going to run for State this year! We anticipate attendance by several members at the 2011 Convention and we are very proud of this participation.

With great pride and Eagle spirit, we submit this letter to ask that Thornton 3226 be considered for the honor of Aerie of the Year.

Fraternally,

Ted Chavez Tim McCabe Worthy President Secretary
