Assessments

Your pre-program assessment materials will be available eight weeks before the start date of the program via the links in your personalized email and at the CCL IAS (Internet Assessment System) to-do list. Pre-program assessment materials will require approximately two to three hours to complete. In order to attend the program, it is very important to complete and submit your materials to CCL four weeks prior to the program start date. Your assessment feedback is an integral part of your program experience. Some of these materials require input from your colleagues, so you will need to access the information in a prompt manner in order to provide them with enough time to complete their portion. You will be completing the following pre-program activities for Session 1:

 Executive Nurse Fellows 360 Executive Nurse Fellows 360 is an instrument for systematically collecting assessments of an individual's performance from a wide range of people, including peers, direct reports, the boss, superiors, and others. Feedback from multiple perspectives is a key element of the RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows program. The surveys collect information about skills and behaviors important for leadership effectiveness within your organization. It provides comparison of results with other successful executive nurse leaders and begins the process of feedback-based individual development.

 Workplace Big Five™ Profile 4.0 Workplace Big Five™ Profile 4.0 provides information about your personality traits, which drive your behavior. You will learn which traits provide natural energy for the competencies you need to perform at work and which traits do not naturally support those competencies.

 CPI 260™ The CPI 260™ instrument aims to describe individuals as if they were being described by knowledgeable and objective others. The CPI 260 assessment and reports provide a rich descriptive commentary for the client in such useful areas as: interpersonal style, approach to leadership, motivation, approach to structure and rules, as well as a number of personal characteristics.

 Influence Style Indicator® The Influence Style Indicator® is an individual assessment designed to identify a dominant influencing style and give insight into other styles that may be better used in a given situation. This assessment helps individuals understand how their influencing style is perceived by others and also understand what other styles look like as well.

 Health and Physical Activity Questionnaire

 Participant Background Form

 Biographical Inventory

Key Leadership Challenge

During the RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows program, you will focus in greater depth on a specific significant leadership challenge or opportunity you currently face. You will email this document to the ENF national program office at [email protected] by August 29th, 2011.

The Center for Creative Leadership is committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of our participants. CCL subscribes to the American Psychological Association's code of ethics regarding the use of an individual's personal data for research; this code is particularly concerned with protecting the rights of the person. In addition, our policies are guided by the U.S. Department of Commerce's "safe harbor" principles covering data privacy for residents of the European Union. In fact, we strive to extend these more stringent data privacy protections to all Center clients, wherever they reside. Review CCL's Policy on Privacy Key Leadership Challenge

During the RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows program, you will focus in greater depth on a specific significant leadership challenge or opportunity you currently face. The significant challenge or opportunity you choose to focus on should meet these general criteria:

 Be of primary importance to you, the immediate team with whom you work, your organization, and/or a professional association work group

 Involve others, who also have a significant investment in the outcome(s)

 Has persisted over a period of time, or is likely to do so

 May require changes in beliefs, values, assumptions, or behaviors for you or those involved in the challenge

Examples might include:

 Building acceptance for some especially challenging team or organizational goal or performance objective

 Engaging others in creating fundamental changes in how the group’s work is accomplished (more collaboration, trust, interdependence, etc.)

 Addressing a teamwork or collaboration issue among your peer group

 Creating a “new employment contract” or culture within your work group, department, or organization

 Increasing motivation, focus, and commitment during organizational or industry change and turbulence

 Engaging patients or consumers in work to improve the experience of care, system performance or access to care

 Building coalitions to improve health care transitions and outcomes of care, while lowering health care costs

It is important that you reflect carefully on your own current leadership situation and select the challenge or opportunity of greatest significance to you. You will have the opportunity to use information generated throughout the ENF program session from lectures, exercises, and discussions to provide insight into the specifics of your situation.

Ultimately, you must determine your personal challenges in relation to this key leadership challenge. Linking your strengths and weaknesses as reported by your personal assessment data to your back-home leadership challenge is the best way to develop your learning goals and objectives moving forward. Feedback from the ENF 360 assessment and personality assessments can give you great insight into new behaviors you may need to develop to be successful with this key leadership challenge as well as other aspects of your work and life.

The following questions have been designed to assist you in capturing and exploring your key leadership challenge. Answer the questions as best you can, drawing on your insights about the situation and the stakeholders involved.

1. In one or two paragraphs:

 Describe the situation or opportunity that significantly challenges you as a leader.

 Provide some insight into the context for understanding the nature of this challenge or opportunity. Make your notes as if you were explaining to someone not familiar with the circumstances or people involved in your challenge.

2. Who are the stakeholders that are involved in this challenge or opportunity with you? Briefly describe their viewpoints, motivations, values, objectives, etc. as they relate to this situation.

3. What are the current or potential conflicts inherent in this situation? Please be as specific as possible; briefly describe an example or two.

4. What most frustrates you about the situation you have described?

5. What stimulates or excites you about the situation you have described? 6. At this point in time, what do you see as the barriers to moving forward with the situation you have described?

7. Who may be resistant? How? Why?

8. What actions are you considering to address this challenge or opportunity?

9. What resources do you need to help you be successful?

10. How will you be a more effective leader as a result of tackling this challenge?

11. How will addressing this challenge benefit you, the stakeholders involved, and/or your organization?

Center for Creative Leadership® (CCL®) Privacy Commitment for Program Participants

The Center for Creative Leadership's goal is to improve the quality of leadership in organizations through research, education, and the dissemination of knowledge. As part of this effort, we sometimes gather research data on both organizations and people. These data are then analyzed and the results are used by CCL and published in summary form in reports designed for wide circulation. By providing personal data to CCL, you agree that we may use that data to deliver the requested service and communicate information to you regarding CCL-related programs, products and services in which you may be interested. Since the organizations and people who participate in our training programs and other activities represent valuable sources for research data, the information we collect from them is stored in our databases and may become a part of a research project. We also, however, have a strong commitment to protect the rights, privacy, and dignity of every person who participates in these activities. For this reason we have a number of safeguards: 1. CCL is guided by the American Psychological Association's code of ethics regarding the use of an individual's personal data for research; this code is particularly concerned with protecting the rights of the person. In addition, we are guided by the U.S. Department of Commerce's "safe harbor" principles covering data privacy for residents of the European Union. In fact, we strive to extend these more stringent data privacy protections to all CCL clients, wherever they reside. 2. Questions related to race/ethnicity or family history are for U.S. research and reporting purposes. U.S. law encourages us to collect information on the racial demographics of our clients. Other legal jurisdictions outside of the United States may not permit the collection of such information. Therefore, answer race/ethnicity or family history questions only if you reside in the United States. 3. Assessment data collected about or from an individual as part of a program are shared with and explained to that person. 4. Information we collect about or from an individual is considered confidential. Individuals receive feedback on instruments only from qualified Feedback Coaches. 5. Although CCL has never been required to release information without an individual's permission (or the permission of an authorized legal representative such as an executor, executrix, or the holder of a valid power of attorney), we should note that in the extremely rare case of a court order, we might be compelled to do so. 6. Data collected from surveys published by CCL are stored in its database. They become a part of the norm group, containing thousands of scores, against which individual scores are calibrated. Periodically, we publish data on groups of people. Individuals are never identified in these reports. Specific organizations are identified only if we receive prior written approval from the organization. We also may provide to an organization summary profiles on groups of individuals in that organization if the number of individuals is large enough to be potentially meaningful. 7. If you do not wish to have your test scores become part of our research database, you will be provided the opportunity at the end of your program to request that all your data be deleted. In order to ensure that all testing materials for individuals are received and scored, data are typically not deleted until 60-90 days after receipt of the request. Please remember that if you have your data removed from the database, we will not be able to provide to you a duplicate feedback report at a later date or use your data in any group profiles. 8. From time to time, CCL makes use of the personal contact information we collect to keep our constituents aware of news related to CCL programs, products and services. People that we contact are provided with a means of informing CCL that they would not like to receive such information. For details on these procedures, visit our Web site: www.ccl.org/privacy. We take your privacy very seriously and will act responsibly.

If you have any questions about our Privacy Commitment, or wish to correct or remove any personal data from our database, please feel free to contact one of CCL's Client Services representatives or visit our Web site at www.ccl.org/privacy. Leave your work behind

Executive Nurse Fellows is an intense process. It is essential for you to be fully engaged and "present" in order to gain optimal value. You will enjoy the program and benefit more if you reduce distractions and fully immerse yourself in the experience.

Daily schedules are full, and include short classroom preparation assignments on some evenings. With only an hour for lunch and two short breaks each day, there is not enough time to manage work while you are here. Therefore, we recommend you let your staff, co-workers and boss know that you will develop yourself as a leader more effectively if they manage things while you are away. RWJF ENF Session 1 Focus: A foundation in all four Competency categories

Fellows will be able to:

• Understand their own leadership strengths and weaknesses for increased effectiveness

• Seek, use, and deliver feedback for greater leadership impact

• Identify and develop daily practices for building resiliency

• Work more effectively with a variety of personality and communication styles

• Develop more effective relationships

• Add a systems level perspective to personal leadership models

• Manage multiple constituencies to build involvement & ownership of the work

• Identify behaviors that support or get in the way of cross-organizational interaction

• Utilize their own as well as others’ experiences to promote learning

• Solicit input from diverse sources and perspectives to foster collaboration
