EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING January, 6th 2017 Conference Room 130

The meeting was called to order by Patrick DeWitt, President.

Guests to the Executive Board Meeting

Maria Bournique and Bob Kovar were in attendance to aid in what education courses should be sponsored by our IAAO Chapter.

Officer Change

Jennifer Archer who was our 2nd Vice President no longer works for the Sedgwick County Appraiser’s Office. It was agreed that Jack Manion would perform both the 1st Vice & 2nd Vice President positions.

Vending Machine

Our vending machine is bringing in around $300 to $400 a month. We make more money during the weeks when classes are held in our training room.

Education Classes

It was recommended to sponsor 312 or 332 which deal with Commercial modeling. Also, IAAO Course 311 which deals with Residential modeling. There are some personnel that are interested in obtaining the IAAO designation for mapping. 330 was another course mentioned as a possibility.

Possible instructors would be Barry Couch and Rick Stewart.

It was mentioned that the fees for classes plus instructors have/are increasing for 2017 courses. Also, that KCAA is not interested in sponsoring the 300 series of courses.

KCAA is sponsoring the following for 2017:

IAAO 332 in Topeka on 4/27 thru 4/28 IAAO 201 in Manhattan on 5/22 thru 5/26 IAAO 101 in Wichita on 7/10 thru 7/14 This is incorrect – class will be held in Manhattan.t IAAO 400 in Wichita on 7/17 thru 7/21 IAAO 102 in Topeka on 8/28 thru 9/1 IAAO 311 in Wichita on 12/4 thru 12/8

SCKIAAO would be looking at IAAO 947 IAAO 332 IAAO 311

No motion and/or vote on final decision of classes.

Ideas for meetings

Next executive board meeting will be held in around 1 ½ months or until May 1. Need to be careful since we have to meet 4 times to pass certification by June 1.

Next chapter meeting could possibly be held around February 24 and/or March 2, 2017. February would work better since the final review date and PUP’s. March 2 wouldn’t work because of the value notices being mailed out. We could have Mr. Cody do another presentation about the weather.

David Lamoure and/or Paul Welcome are possible guest speakers in regards to IAAO designations. Dog Training is another possible idea. Train appraisers to understand the dog’s body language. Take the fear of no going into the backyard due to seeing a dog. What is IAAO? What is it all about? Why join the local chapter if a member of the national chapter? Why join the national chapter if a member of the local chapter?

Open Discussion

We need to have notes on e-mails sent out from our office in regards to our chapter website. The website should be set up with the education courses sponsored and able to do all enroll on line. Also, it should be available to join our local chapter via website. Our members and those interested in joining need to understand that local dues are paid by each member. Yet, most counties pay the National dues.

It takes five (5) years to become an IAAO Instructor. Cost would be around $1,000 for the class. Class is held on a Friday and Saturday. Some of our new staff might want to be interested. If someone from our office was an instruction, it would save money when they teach courses.

Membership program in regards to designations: Each appraiser is assigned a person that is their PDF or counselor that is working on a designation. If they are struggling, have basic questions, etc. We could set up a local help line to assist people prior to contacting their PDF or counselor. Ronnie stated that appraisers who have IAAO designations are getting contacted by IAAO Executive Board to becoming PVD or counselors for those who are working currently on their designations,

September 8 would be a good time period to holding a meeting.. low on funds to come back to aid other counties in regards to Orion was tabled for another meeting.

Meeting adjourned.
