Email: [email protected] Website: http://www.mrsbhatt.weebly.com Office Hours: Monday – Friday 6:45 to 7:30

Course Description: Anatomy and physiology is a discussion and laboratory based study of the human body. The study will range from molecules and cells to body systems and functions. Dissection of a fetal pig and other appropriate organs will compliment this course in the form of labs. This course is designed for college preparation, especially for biology and health career majors.

Materials: Students must bring the following each day to class unless otherwise instructed. 3-ring binder or folder pens and pencils (Dark ink only!) notebook or lined paper highlighter

Lab Fees: In order to cover the costs of lab materials, a lab fee of $25 will be collected. This fee must show as collected in order to participate in dissection labs. Please speak with Mrs. Bhatt for more information.

Grading Policy All graded work will be given a point value based on work quality, completeness, and correctness. The grading scale will be the same as found in the Student Handbook. Extra credit is offered only if the student is at or above an 81%.

Quarterly & Final Exams In addition to daily assignments and activities, three quarterly and one final exam will be given. The mid-term will be administered at the end of the semester in December. The final exam will be given during the seniors’ last week of school in May. These two exams will each count as 10% of the student’s grade, totaling 20% of the total grade.

Homework Homework will not be assigned regularly. Because of this, I expect homework to be done and ready to be turned in the very next day unless otherwise noted. Please let me know before the

1 due date if situations arise. Late work is any work turned in later than three days. It will be worth ½ credit will be taken up to a week after its due date. Labs & Dissection We will conduct labs or lab-like activities and mini-dissections in class. In order to participate in these labs, a Lab Rules Agreement must be signed and on file. Labs will often include a lab write-up and can last more than one day. In labs, students will often work in partners or groups where part of your grade will consist of how much you contribute to the group’s efforts. All lab work will be collected and graded. Many labs may not be able to be made up. At the end of the year, there will be a fetal pig dissection which will cover all the systems discussed throughout the year. Participation in this dissection will be 10% of your final grade.

Make-up Policy for Missed Assignments If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what was discussed and assigned during your absence. You will have the same number of days as they were absent to make up the work. (Example, Mrs. B was gone 3 days; she will have 3 days to make up the work). If you miss a test or quiz, make immediate arrangements to make up the test with the teacher. This may be before/after school or during lunch.

Plagiarism/Academic Dishonesty Plagiarism is defined in your Student Handbook as “…copying or imitating the language, ideas, and thoughts of another writer and passing them off as your own original work.” If it is found that you have plagiarized in any assignment, lab, project or exam, it will be reported to administration and a failing grade will be issued for that assignment. Students found to have copied work (both the copier and the ‘supplier’) will receive failing grades on that assignment as well as detention.

Electronic Devices Cell phones, I-Pods and other electronic devices are to be on silent and in your backpack during the school day. If they are heard or are visible, they will immediately be confiscated and taken directly to the office. Personal electronic devices may be used only at teacher’s approval.

I have read the syllabus and understand the expectations of Mrs. Bhatt and this class.
