Since 1999 Mary’s Place has empowered homeless women and children to reclaim their lives and is best known as the only day center in King County where a homeless woman can bring her children for safety, shelter and support. Mary’s Place serves hundreds of women and children annually, with over 35,000 visits last year to our day center alone.
Position Description
We are seeking a passionate individual with great organizational skills to join our team at Mary’s Place as a Housing and Wellness Advocate. Under the supervision of the Housing Coordinator, the Housing and Wellness Advocate will be responsible for actively seeking out, obtaining and maintaining relationships with housing, healthcare, educational and employment providers. The qualified candidate must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization including the clients we serve, our invaluable volunteers, outstanding vendors and our incredible donors.
Key Responsibilities
Proactively seek out new housing opportunities and resources to assist families with housing Maintain on-going relationships with landlords and other housing providers, including acting as a liaison between landlord and client as needed Develop and facilitate trainings and workshops for clients and shelter staff including tenets rights and responsibilities, housing discrimination, finding and securing rental housing, communication with landlords and fair housing Manage a caseload of specific clients including developing Service Goal Plans, budgeting and monitoring a client’s compliance with program rules Conduct and document client meeting to monitor progress Maintain a Housing Directory to include documentation of all contacts with housing providers. Provide consistent updates on housing availability Facilitate support-educational groups to educate clients on various issues including basics of renting, fair housing, self-esteem, safety, parenting, child care, nutrition, money management, credit counseling, home maintenance and good housekeeping skills Makes referrals to other services as needed and work with other community providers to provide collaborative services to clients Maintain current level of knowledge on program software and other information on housing assistance programs Conduct phone follow-up after completion of the program Other duties as assigned Skills/Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree A minimum of three years experience in property management, housing management and/or real estate, including negotiation and advocacy. Experience in conducting group training and working with diverse populations Proven ability to form positive relationships with vendors, volunteers, donors, and clients Exceptional time and organizational skills Proven ability to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines Ability to work successfully in a collaborative, team-oriented organization Proficiency with Microsoft Word Able to proficiently speak, read, write, and understand English Additional languages highly preferred, specifically Amharic and Tigrinya Exhibits compassion and empathy and works well with women and children from all ethnic, social, economic and sexual orientation backgrounds Ability to understand and maintain appropriate boundaries Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude and sense of humor, even under pressure Strong understanding of/commitment to the Mary’s Place mission of empowering homeless women, children, and families Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed

This is a part-time position with some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Salary $14-$16/hour DOE. Mary’s Place is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
