POSITION DESCRIPTION

Class Title: Teen Center Coordinator Department: Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Class Grade: C 37.5 , Non- Exempt Date: October 2017

Nature of Work Planning, coordinating, promoting, supervising and leading quality recreation programs and activities for the Teen Center participants (grades 6-12), as well as general supervision of Teen Center and other recreation related programs at the Redbank Community Center. In addition, this position will serve as the Teen Extreme Camp Director in the summer months.

Supervisory Relationships The Teen Center Coordinator reports to the Recreation Programs Manager at Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department and oversees the part time Teen Center Assistant Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  Plan and implement day to day activities for teens  Coordinate and supervise fields trips and special events  Ability to work with a diverse population of teens in grades 6-12  Accountable for all participants signed in at the Teen Center during open hours  Ability to effectively and appropriately handle behavioral issues of participants  Create and maintain a culture of inclusion and respect  Ensure that all youth feel safe, welcome and engaged  Ensure a quality program through surveys and evaluations  Work with the Recreation Programs Manager to control expenditures and make recommendations as they relate to the teen programs  Seek program sponsorships and grant opportunities  Manage and enforce discipline policies and provide effective guidance  Responsible for all equipment in the Teen Center and shared spaces  Manage record keeping and reporting, as it relates to the teen & recreational programs  Use social media and other means to promote the teen center and it’s programs  Develop and maintain positive relationships with teens, parents, staff and schools  Attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings  Communicate with parents on any issues, concerns, and questions regarding Teen Center participants  Seek out and collaborate with other groups and individuals to establish partnerships.  Supervise open gyms, basketball practices and other programs and events as needed.  Serve as the Teen Extreme Camp Director in the summer.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience  College degree in Recreation, Education, Social Work or related field preferred.  Work experience with teens in an advisory, recreational or school setting.  Understanding of teenage social, emotional, academic and recreational needs.  Understanding of group dynamics and facilitation skills.  Must be able to communicate effectively and courteously with management, co-workers and the public.  Must possess the ability and experience to effectively supervise personnel  Must be resourceful and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.  Available to work a flexible schedule.  Valid Maine driver’s license required.  Possession of, or willingness to obtain a CDL driving certification with passenger endorsement  Must have excellent references and be able to pass background check Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, hear, sit, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
