CEPO Meeting Tuesday, November 12th, 2013 @ CTE Media Center

Welcome & Introductions Attendees: Kris Cardille, Charity Grubbs, Janelle Timko, Amy Grundtner, Anne Ballard, Kathy Kaiser, Kelly Border, Lance Hirdler, Leah Mertes

Treasurer’s Report – Amy Grundtner  Approved, typo on KidStuff books – should be $800.00 (updated the spreadsheet) Expenditure Requests  CD player request is different than we originally thought – she is looking for a 5 disc CD changer but they are hard to find. Wants to be able to show the sheet music while the music is playing and hasn’t been able to make that work on the smartboard. Plan is to reach out to her and explore options after the concerts are done this month.  501(c)3 status – We are “in progress” and have 90 days before we go back to the bottom of the pile. Kelly reached out to a friend who is a business lawyer and may be able to assist. Site Council Update – Nichel Townley & Kelly Border  No meeting this month. Principal’s Report – Kathy Kaiser  Centennial Express Program started today. Mr. Riley and Ms. Guthmueller are leading the groups. There are 50 students total.  Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) identified hidden talents or strengths in the students. It is an expensive test so only the 2nd and 4th graders take it. Results are expected in early January. The teachers, support staff, and parents get the results which show how the child compares to others nationally and suggests areas of interest that would hopefully get them more engaged.  Cougar Cub Good Choice Awards – Presentation that was given to the teachers was reviewed and attached. This program started today.  Conferences feedback – Kindergarten wants to talk to the parents earlier in the school year and others don’t mind waiting until later in the fall. The feeling is that the less-than- positive feedback is due to how the change was communicated and lack of understanding of why the change was made. If you have additional feedback, please let Ms. Kaiser or Superintendent Dietz know.

Committee Reports  Box Tops – Anne Ballard & Susan Hylton o November submission is still pending but we earned $605.90 o Other options for this kind of fundrasing: Many companies require non-profit status. Another consideration is that the other options do not give cash, but products (ie. Books or playground equipment) and some of those products are “expensive” for the number of labels or whatever is collected. Country Hearth bread and Labels for Education are both options that have been looked at.  Spirit Wear – Kathy Hatch and Michelle Koch o Orders online so have total $1968 o Last day is Nov. 15th  Scholastic Book Fair – Amy Grundtner o $5700 profit o Planning to have the spring book fair this week as well, which will qualify us to have the BOGO book fair at the Jam.  Art Adventures (January) – Jeff Gjerdes and Susan Hylton o No update  Bingo & Baskets (February 21) – Janelle Timko o Just getting started.  Centennial Jam – Leah Mertes o Discussed that we want to start the silent auction reach out soon. o An idea is to have families bring Box Tops and earn an extra ticket or something.

Fundraisers  Muller Family Theatres o Haven’t gotten the results yet but people have been enjoying the movies and family time.  KidStuff Coupon Books sale – Charity Grubbs o $850 earned and $42.50 in cash donations – budget so far is $1392.50 for the 5th grade party  *New* Cookie Dough Sales.com – not a lot of interest as other groups are doing it  *New* Midland Fund Raising – custom programs – need more information  *New* Hasbro Family Game Night – Families can come in and play games together; the games can also be sold. Would require some coordination and we need to consider the cost of using the school space.  *New* MOA Nickelodeon Universe wristbands – Some interest in this as it appears to be simple to organize with the opportunity for good returns.  For next year: Fundraisers chair to coordinate all of the opportunities coming in

New Business  School supplies chair needed – Charity has coordinated the past three years and likes the company we have been working with. However, there are other companies that offer the same thing. o Kelly Border volunteered. May choose to get the Student Leadership Council involved.
