Hardware Ranch Ride

Bill Walton (Grasshopper) writes: The Hardware Ranch ride was held on Saturday, September 10th and led by Doug Young. There were 25 machines on the ride and we rode 62 miles. We stopped for a great lunch at Baxter's Sawmill. Doug brought his stove and grilled hamburgers and hotdogs provided by the club. We rode a round-about route which included up to a microwave tower, ending up at Ephraim's Grave. The view from the tower was spectacular! The group then split up, some going back to the staging area and the remainder to Gray Cliff Spring. The spring is more like a river coming out of the mountain about 50 feet above. It was amazing. We then rode a Black Diamond trail up through the wash, over boulders almost as big as our wheels and then back to camp. The ride included a "little guy" riding a '90. He was a real trooper, keeping up with everybody. Neal brought his new RZR and gave it a good workout. Some of the members also rode on the days before and after the ride. We rode to Monte Cristo on the south and Peter Sinks on the north. Thanks to all those who came and also for everybody who pitched in and helped with lunch.

Peggy Richards writes: We had a very good turnout, 23 atv’s and 2 utv’s with a total of 31 people. We had several new people who came with members and said they had a great day. This was also our annual picnic ride so Doug took his grill along the trip and halfway thru he pulled it out and we had hot dogs and hamburgers out on the trail along with the side dishes everyone brought, that is when it sure pays to have the side by side vehicles to tote the extra food for the riders. The day started with Doug leading the ride, I know Doug and his family loves to ride this area. We stopped at a few lookout points and with the weather being so beautiful we could see for miles. Everyone made it up all the hills and over the rocks, even the little 90 cc bike, Ryan Whitlatch did a great job on that little atv like a pro. When we did stop for lunch it was at the old fort area that has been torn down. We made it to Ephraim’s Grave then the last part a few took a detour and went up the trail with the huge rocks, but most declined on that route. All made it back to camp safely, with no incidents, or breakdowns. The ride was quite dusty but that is normal when it hasn't rained lately and it is better than the times we have been there in the rain, hail, and snow. All in all if you didn't make it you missed a fantastic day with friends and family. Thanks to Doug and Valaine for leading a great day. Thanks to all those who came and brought others, and now have some new friends. Thanks to Matt for the pictures taken and if any have more pictures email them to Matt Peterson.
