Junior Inter-Regional Regatta Trials

Junior Inter-Regional Regatta – Trials Dorney Lake, Saturday 11th March 2017

The trials will be run in four divisions run over a distance of 1500m from a running start Provisional Start List attached NUMBERS ON BOWS RACE TOP PLEASE (and securely pinned with four pins)

8am Coaches Briefing Session

There will be a coaches meeting at 8am outside the boathouse when you will be briefed and also asked to help with timing and marshalling. The marshalling rota has been attached, along with the draw. Your co-operation in this respect will be greatly appreciated.

Equipment and Coxes Information We ask all coaches to ensure that all shoe restraints and bow balls are intact prior to bringing boats to the Lake. Please ensure that coxes bring their own buoyancy aids and that for front loaders self-inflating life jackets must not be used. Coxes will also need to bring extra weights in the event they do not meet the minimum weight. Numbers should be pinned to bows racing top. Coaches should carry throw bags.

Boating Arrangements

Please ensure that all athletes are boated no less than 20 minutes prior to the start time of their division. The rules governing circulation of traffic at Dorney Lake can be found near the office. It is every athlete’s responsibility to ensure that he/she is familiar with these rules.

Circulation

Normal circulation applies, paddling up to the top of the lake. Crews should then quickly spin into lanes 1 and 2, as directed by the marshals. Lanes 1 and 2 will both be used for racing, with Lane 0 the designated safety lane. There will be a rolling start, with crews set off in alternate lanes approximately 15 seconds apart. Crews being overtaken should move out of the way of the faster crew. Please note that the lake is open, and there may be other crews paddling in lane 3.

Entry numbers

We have an exceptionally large entry this year. To ensure all crews get good racing, please make sure your crews are boated promptly and briefed to listen carefully to the marshals. We only have limited water time, so we need to ensure the event runs on schedule.

Timing Selection will be based on performance and should a younger crew achieve a quicker time than an older crew, the organisers reserve the right to select accordingly. This may involve putting the younger crew/athlete into a higher age group to represent the region at the finals.

Unlike in previous years, results will not be printed out and posted at the finish, they will instead be uploaded to twitter on the @Falcon_Rowing account, and to www.falconrcc.co.uk/JIRR. Crews will be selected in conjunction with the coaches after racing has finished.

Finally… I look forward to seeing you on Saturday. If you have any questions, please contact me Lorna Hermes at [email protected], or on 07792 007876.
