A Child Will Only Achieve Their Full Potential If They Attend School Regularly

June 2017

Dear Parents/Carers Attendance

It is particularly pleasing to see the excellent attendance of so many children who attend Cilâ Primary School. Excellent attendance goes hand in hand with excellent achievement. A child will only achieve their full potential if they attend school regularly. The class with the best attendance for the first part of the summer term was Year 3/4 with 96.9%. Each child in the class received an ‘Excellent Attendance’ wrist band. To date 13 children have 100% attendance for the academic year 2016/17. Cilâ currently sits in Quartile 2 with 95.63% in its Welsh Government Free School Meals benchmark group. Many thanks for supporting your child’s attendance at Cilâ.

Sports Day Reminder

Please make a note in your diaries that our sports day will take place on Wednesday June 28th (weather permitting) on the main school yard.

9.10am – 10.00am Nursery/Reception 10.30am – 11.30am Year 1 and Year 2 1.30pm – 2.30pm Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

Footwear

It is important that children wear appropriate footwear for playing on the yard and practicing for sports day. Flip flops, Crocs and some sandals can, and do lead to the children having accidents that can be avoided if more suitable footwear is worn.

Summer Serenade

This year’s informal ‘Summer Serenade’ will take place on the school yard on the afternoon of Friday 30 th June at 1.30pm. Seating is limited but there will be ample standing room. Pupils are encouraged to wear bright summer clothes. They are also welcome to wear trolls clothing or costumes if they wish to do so. Tea/coffee and cake will be available to purchase prior to the commencement of the Serenade.

Open Evening

After the success of last year’s open evening show casing out literacy resources, there will be an opportunity for parents to view recently purchased mathematics resources that are used to support numeracy at Cilâ. Foundation Phase pupils are using Numicon which encourages children to explore mathematics using structured imagery and apparatus in order to understand and explain mathematical concepts. Children in KS2 are using Abacus. It contains high quality resources and tools for teachers and children, which develop in-depth understanding and mathematical enjoyment – the key to helping children reason mathematically. The open evening will take place on Monday July 10th between 4.00pm and 5.00pm. This will allow you to walk around the school to look at displays and visit areas in and around the school. Along with the numeracy resources for viewing in the hall there will also be a display of art work from year 3/4 who participated in the New Traditions in Print project with artist Nina Morgan.
