Safety Tips: (suggestions from Officer Borquez)

1. Tell neighbors when you’ll be out of town, and have one or two park in your driveway when away. Send the Jefferson Drive neighbors an email so we can keep an eye out!

2. Have security doors installed on front/back doors and sliders, and other security bars as necessary.

3. Have shatterproof tint installed on windows to inhibit easy entry [and shattered, broken windows]. SpotShots Window Tinting is a great company!

4. Get an Alarm System and have the company decals on most doors/windows plus lawn signs.

5. Install a RING or other brand video-monitoring doorbell which alerts you on your mobile phone of anyone outside ringing your bell, and allows for you to “answer” from anywhere. You can go back and see who came, and download the picture/video. $3/month after purchase of bell.

6. Install motion-detecting lights outside in dark areas such as pathways to back gates.

7. Lock back gates from the inside for more privacy.

8. Have intermittent lights turn on during the night, especially when you’re out of town.

9. Get a “fake TV” which simulates TV light, which can be programmed for certain hours (such as from Sharper Image).

10. Answer door when doorbell rings and you are home, to let people know you are there. You don’t have to show your face.

11. Leave lights on when you know you will be gone for the evening. Dark houses are a giveaway.

12. Have neighbors get your mail and paper when you are out of town. Cancelling both can be a giveaway.

13. Note suspicious cars with people inside sitting/parked on our street and take a picture of the car/license plate or call DPD.

14. Have automatic light-sensitive (dusk-to-dawn) porch lights always on. 15. Install window-well covers on basement windows. (Note: residents can still get OUT easily)

16. Put 3” screws in the door lock strike plates (so the door lock cannot be pushed/kicked in easily)
