1600 STOCK ROD CLASS (SRT) TAR

Introduction: Competitor age restriction: Only competitors over the age of 13 years and older are permitted to enter into this class.

The main objective of this class is to promote Oval racing in the most cost efficient way by means of stock standard saloon cars/LDV’s/hatch backs with minimum alterations.

The Stock Rod class is an entry level class for standard sedans or coupe, 2- or 4 door body cars and LDVs. Front and rear wheel drive vehicles permitted. All spare parts fitted to the car shall be used without any alterations and modifications as they come from a road going vehicle. Cars to be used must be in standard form using original engines and gearboxes as it was produced by the manufacturer. Rotary engines not permitted.

Only modifications specifically stated shall be allowed, anything not stated in this rules are not permitted. SRT 1. Eligibility of vehicle and bodies: 1.1 Original manufacturer body vehicle designed and built for public road using; 1.2 These vehicles are converted for Oval racing. As they are referred to as original factory build vehicle; 1.3 Semi space frame or full space frame vehicles are not permitted; 1.4 Bodies may not be lengthened, shortened or narrowed; 1.5 All interior trim must be removed; 1.6 No extra panels to be fitted inside of care; 1.7 The roof may not be lowered and any openings caused by the fitting of a sunroof etc must be properly closed, no bonnets to be cut to accommodate air cleaners; 1.8 The front valance and radiator carrier may only be reinforced by two gussets constructed of plate with a maximum thickness of 1 mm in single layer; 1.9 No alternative reinforcing will be permitted, it follows that tubing or similar material may not be utilized as reinforcing; 1.10 The internal fender walls and wheel houses shall be retained front and rear; 1.11 The silhouette as seen from the front shall remain symmetrical and similar to the original vehicle; 2012 - 2013 SRT (TAR) 01/12 1.12 The inner portion of the doors, may be removed, in doing so, care should be taken that no sharp edges are left, similarly no fiberglass replacements permitted; 1.13 LDV’s roll gage shall remain with 6 main points; 1.14 No steel plates are allowed to reinforce the rear of the vehicle; 1.15 The metal of the body when replaced may not exceed 1mm in thickness and may not be aluminum; 1.16 Body parts can be repaired with a reasonable amount of fiberglass. 1.17 Wheels should remain within the body; 1.18 Spats to a maximum width of 50mm are allowed measured from original body to side of spat; 1.19 Tailgates should be secured in proper way not to come loose in case of a collision; 1.20 Only original bumpers can be used or bumpers can be removed; 1.21 No part of the original Mono or body may be cut out. SRT 2. Safety and General: 2.1 Seat Belts and race wear as per the TC Regulations; Numbers: 2.2 Must be on both doors and on roof plate, refer to the TC Regulations; SRT 3. Roll Cage and Frame 3.1 Roll cage refer to Technical Regulations; 3.2 Full roll cage to b e fitted, may support rear of front strut tower, but not further than rear strut tower; 3.3 Strut braces are allowed. SRT 4. Bumpers: Refer TC Regulations 4.1 Only original bumpers that the car originally came out with or no bumpers at all will be permitted. SRT 5. Brakes: 5.1 Brakes should remain standard; 5.2 No modified pedal boxes are permitted; 5.3 No ABS brakes are permitted; 5.4 No rear disk brake to be fitted; 5.5 Cars with brake drums in front may be changed them with a later model disc brake of the same car. SRT 6. Car construction: 6.1 No engine offset is allowed; 6.2 Engines are to be fitted in their original positions with original mountings and mounting brackets; 6.3 Firewalls may not be cut to accommodate any modifications; 6.4 Bodies to remain standard; 6.5 Fuel tanks must be covered by box like only, no wind covers e.g. panel inside care or closing up the back of bakkies; 6.6 LDV’s are not to be closed at the load box, only the small box covering the fuel tank. SRT 7. Dimension and Weights 7.1 Minimum weight of a stock rod will be 800kg with the driver, if not, 2012 - 2013 SRT (TAR) 01/12 ballast weights must to be used to comply; 7.2 All dimensions and specifications must be according to the manufacturer’s specifications as records by the Auto Date Digest unless there is proof of any error in the Auto Data Digest. SRT 8. Engine: 8.1 The maximum total engine size allowed is 1600cc (oversize as per manufactures specifications) hm and fm block/crank with minimum weight?? 8 valve only; 8.1.1 No A15 engines are allowed, Nissan 1200 engines (A12) may be replaced with Nissan 1400 engines (A14) 8.1.2 No engine parts whatsoever will be interchanged between engines, e.g. 1400 to be fitted with a 1400 flywheel and not of a 1200; 8.1.3 The following VW engine block codes may be used:  HM,  EZ,  RF,  JP,  EAE,  AE,  AJV,  ARC,  AVY,  AEE,  AEH,  AFP,  AKL,  AKS,  ALM,  APT,  AUR,  BAH,  FR,  BGU,  BKG,  BLM,  BCA 8.2 Distributors to remain standard vacuum and advanced, must be connected and working, no electronic ignition on A14 Nissan engines or any other vehicle that did not came out standard, no aftermarket systems or any other aftermarket models to be used. 8.3 Carburetion can be altered to a maximum of 38 DCD Weber; 8.3.1 Carburetor by fitting and aftermarket adapter between the carburetor and the intake manifold; 8.4 The cylinder head and engine block must be used in combination as fitted in factory (original fit), No fuel injection heads are permitted; 8.5 Cam shaft permitted on Golf/Polo engines are R,L,W and K; 8.6 Reprofiled, undercut or billit camshaft are not allowed; 8.7 Camshaft should be identified by the manufacturers identification 2012 - 2013 SRT (TAR) 01/12 marks; 8.8 Degree camshaft pulleys are not allowed. No slotting on standard pulleys; 8.9 Intake manifolds are to remain standard. 8.9.1 No aftermarket manifolds (only original) carb fitting with adapter plate between carb and intake. No adapter plates may be used between the cylinder head and intake manifold. 8.9.2 Intake and exhaust port on cylinder head are to remain standard; 8.10 No port matching; 8.11 No air intake ducting will be allowed 8.12 Valve guides are to remain standard. 8.13 Electric water pumps are not allowed; 8.14 Flex plates are not allowed; 8.15 Flywheels to remain standard; 8.16 Aftermarket ignition systems are not allowed; 8.17 TP100 is allowed, only on VW; 8.18 Balancing of engines parts are allowed. No knife edging; 8.19 No rotary engines will be allowed; 8.20 Three angle valve seats are permitted; 8.20.1 The measurements of the three angle valve seats are as follows;  Angle 1; Combustion chamber 30 degrees;  Angle 2; Valve seat 45 degrees;  Angle 3; Port 60 – 65 degrees with valve seat width free; 8.21 Valves must be standard completely including size and length; 8.22 Head bolts not to be cut down or washer added; 8.23 Only standard valve springs are allowed. SRT 9. Exhausts: 9.1 Branches are to be allowed; 9.2 Branches on Ford engines are allowed with a maximum outside diameter of 38mm (on certain Kent engines branches was a standard fitment); 9.3 Free flow systems are after the exhaust manifold is allowed, but silencer must be on at all times of racing; SRT 10. Fuel, Fuel management and carburetion 10.2.5 Fuel: Only pump fuels are permitted; Carburetors:

SRT 11. Steering and suspension: 11.1 Only commercially available steering racks and steering boxed are allowed, but to remain standard to the vehicle, no modifications; 11.2 No quick ratio versions are allowed; 11.3 Suspension could be altered but only to the left front wheel (top bottom) not adjustable; 11.4 No adjustable shocks are allowed; 11.5 Only South African made Gabriel or Armstrong shocks allowed; 11.6 Rear suspension must remain standard but can be lowered by heating or cutting of the springs (Mini may cut down the cones only 2012 - 2013 SRT (TAR) 01/12 front and rear); 11.7 LDV’s and rear wheel drive vehicles can make modifications on the rear springs; 11.8 Coil spring can be reduced/cut to lower vehicle, not competition ones; 11.9 On drivers side a 175mm block must pass under the seal not the lip edge from end to end; 11.10 Breach of regulation in particular pertain to item no., shall result in the competitor losing the event’s points; SRT 12. Transmission: 12.1 Only gearboxes as fitted in factory (original format are allowed) 12.2 On front wheel drive vehicles gearbox of the same make and brand can be interchanged to accommodate ratio problems e.g. A VW Golf gearbox can be fitted to a VW POLO or vice versa but only to accommodate ratio problems; 12.3 On rear wheel drive vehicles the gearbox can be interchange (ford to ford if it is a straight fit, no adapter plates may be used); 12.4 No limited slip differentials are allowed, lock differential by welding only. SRT 13. Wheels and Tyres: 13.1 Only NANKAN and any South African manufactured 12”, 13”, 14” or 15” tyres are permitted with a maximum width of 205 only; 13.2 Rims can be replaced with mags to a maximum of 8J but should still remain within the wheel arches as in S/SR/R 1.16;

SRT 14. Wings: 14.1 Wings are not permitted;
