LOTF Group Project Dear Brilliant High School Student: The following is a written explanation of the Lord of the Flies group project. Today we will choose our groups and learn about the specifics of the project. This project is usually the highlight of the semester for my classes…it can be a great deal of fun!!

Hints for success: - Begin your filming absolutely as soon as possible. You can always make your flag a day or two before your presentation. You CANNOT video the night before. Something always goes wrong. - Divide responsibilities early in the process. Assign one person to make the flag, one to make the map, one to create the anthem, and one to begin work on the script. Get together absolutely as soon as possible to begin work. - The inability to meet with group members is not an acceptable excuse for an incomplete assignment. Academics should be your first priority, so make it happen! - Remember that you will be graded as a group, and individually. If you want to receive a good grade, work well with your peers.

ASSESSMENT  The project will be worth 60 points. On your presentation day, you will submit a written response of the participation of everyone in your group, and a self-assessment rubric of your overall group’s productivity.

MAP  Must include pre-assigned features (see attached)  Can be 3-D, flat, or computer-generated  Is colorful FLAG  A minimum of 12 X 12 in.  Colorful  Includes symbols ANTHEM  Must be presented to the class (live performance or recording)  Must be at least 3 stanzas in length (12-15 lines)  Needs to be submitted in writing on the day of your presentation VIDEO  Although you do not have to submit a script, it is a good idea to create one. This expedites the filming process.  The idea of the video is: “A Day in the Life: How to Fix the Boys’ Issues” You must also address how you would improve upon various issues on the island  You have creative license with this film. Take chances within the guidelines you have been given.  All group members must be in the video; however, you may also use other people from this class or otherwise  The final product must be between 5-10 minutes in length  It is your responsibility to make sure that your video works! We can play the video on a DVD player, or you can put it on YouTube, or other internet video site. Your project will be considered late if you are unable to show it on your assigned day. Absolutely NO EXCUSES from you or your parents.
