Later that year, the second part of the boys’ ‘school trilogy’ dropped, an EP called O!RUL8,2? which produced the single N.O – with this EP selling over 160,000 copies. The last act of the trilogy was Skool Luv Affair in 2014 – the group’s biggest selling record to date, selling 250,000 copies overall and reaching number three on Billboard’s World Albums Chart. Meanwhile, their next album Wings peaked at 26 on the Billboard 200, at the time the highest charting for a K-pop album ever, and broke through the million sales mark with 1.5 million copies sold. 2016 ended with BTS being named Artist Of The Year at the Mnet Asian Music Awards – not their last time winning that prize. Going global. BTS were already huge in Korea – but they had their sights set on making history elsewhere. In 2017, the band’s fifth EP Love Yourself: Her (the start of the Love Yourself trilogy) produced the smash hit DNA, which has been watched 690 million times on YouTube and became, at the time, the highest charting song from a K-pop group on the Billboard Hot 100. The momentum was kept up with the Mic Drop remix, which outdid DNA in the charts and saw the boys work with DJ Steve Aoki and rapper Desiigner – bringing their music to a whole new audience. Then came the American Music Awards. In August 2017, BTS became the first K-pop band to perform at the ceremony, and a huge new fanbase practically popped up overnight, as music fans had their eyes and ears opened to a genre many had not witnessed before.

The exposure of the two supergroups recently sky-rocketed to ever greater heights when, one after the other, they smashed YouTube records of “Most Viewed Clips in the first 24 Hours.” Blackpink was first with “Kill This Love” – ringing up 56.7 million views. Barely 24 hours later, BTS shattered that number, raising it by 20 million views, with “Boys with Luv.” Both have also performed on massive American stages – Saturday Night Live for BTS and the Coachella music festival for Blackpink. My name is David Brill. I’m from Tasmania, which I’m very proud of. Quite a lot of interesting people come out of Tasmania. Neil Davis [war cameraman and correspondent] and a few others; [Tim] Bowden, 01:00 Christopher Koch, who wrote Living Dangerously, Highways to War. Did you ever see that book, “Highways to War”? It’s a book about partly my life and Neil’s life. It’s won the Miles Franklin award. I’ll show it to you later. I was born in Devonport, a place called Latrobe, which is near Devonport where the main hospital was, in 1944. Went to school in Launceston at Scotch College where I was a warrant officer in the cadet corps, which made 01:30 me very interested in the military. I was at one stage thinking of going to Duntroon [Royal Military College]. I’m very glad I didn’t now, looking back on my life. I always had a passion for communication; journalism, filmmaking, the arts. That’s what I was pretty good at in school, and biology. My parents owned a hotel in Longford just outside Launceston, population of about 12,000 people. I used to look forward to 02:00 getting Life Magazine, which was a weekly magazine then. Probably the greatest pictorial magazine in the world. A lot of wonderful photographers and writers who worked for it.

Awal mula, grup ini terbentuk dengan adanya kompetisi yang diselenggarakan oleh salah satu agensi kecil (pada saat itu) korea yang bernama Big Hit Entertaiment, dan pada akhirnya terbentuklah BTS kepanjangan dari Bangtan Sonyeondan dalam bahasa korea atau Beyond the Scene dalam bahasa inggris. Boyband ini memiliki tujuh anggota yang beranggotakan Kim Namjoon yang dikenal dengan RM sekaligus menjadi leader dari boyband ini, ada Kim Seok Jin yang dikenal dengan panggilan Jin, ada Min Yoon Gi yang dikenal dengan Suga, ada Jung Ho Seok yang dikenal dengan J-hope, ada Park Jimin yang dikenal dengan sebutan Jimin, ada juga Kim Tae Hyung yang dikenal dengan V, dan yang terakhir ada Jeon Jung Kook yang dikenal dengan Jungkook. Since the late 1980s, Korean pop music has aspired to be a more advanced industry and establish an international presence, based on the economic leap and democratization as a springboard. Contemporary K-pop, originating from the underground dance scene in the 1980s, succeeded in transforming Korean pop music into a modern and youth-oriented genre with a new style dubbed "rap/dance music." The rise of dance music changed the landscape of Korean popular music and became the cornerstone of the K-pop idol music. In the era of globalization, K-pop’s unique aesthetics and strategy, later termed “Cultural Technology,” achieved substantial returns in the international market.
