Learning Objectives

At the end of this unit, the student should be able to:

1. State the principles of the following: Thrombin time (TT), Mixing Study, Factor Assay, and Inhibitor Screen.

2. List the lab tests used to screen for abnormalities in the hemostatic system.

3. Interpret the results of routine coagulation testing and suggest an appropriate follow-up test.

4. Diagnose a patient by utilizing given laboratory tests.

5. Interpret the results of a mixing study and an inhibitor screen.

6. State the purpose of the Anti-Xa assay.

7. List advantages of the Anti-Xa assay.

8. Recognize the test used to detect heparin contamination in a sample.
