AMB 2010

Boosting growth with innovations

For the AMB in Stuttgart, DMG will present 25 high-tech machines in action, among these six world premieres as well as future-oriented power cell systems from the Energy Solutions division

At the AMB in Stuttgart in Hall 7, DMG will present a total of 25 high-tech machines in action on more than 1.200 m2 of exhibition surface, among these six world premieres as well as productive automation solutions, service products and service offers from the DMG field of Service Solutions. As an example for the new GILDEMEISTER Energy Solutions division, the Würzburg based group company a+f GmbH presents the new battery system cellcube. The battery system solves the problems of energy storage and thus serves an uninterrupted power supply for example as back-up power solution to prevent sensitive systems from failure.

Among the AMB highlights in the field of turning technology are the compact turning/milling centre CTX alpha TC, the 2 spindle turning centre SPRINT 42/10 linear as well as a new machine as extension of the TWIN technology. Once again, the innovations in milling technology document DMG's status as a world market leader in 5 axis technologies. While the DMU 60 eVo linear from DECKEL MAHO Seebach complements the series of universal machines with tilting round table with a medium- sized model, the DMU 65 from DECKEL MAHO Pfronten GmbH marks the start of an entirely new machine generation for universal complete machining. Last but not least, DMG Microset GmbH will exhibit the sixths world premiere on the AMB stand. With its matrix technology, the Bielefeld based company takes tool presetting to the next level. 2 FACHPRESSEINFORMATION

CTX alpha TC: Ingenious all-rounder for complete machining

At the AMB in Stuttgart, GILDEMEISTER Drehmaschinen GmbH will complement the series of their turning/milling centres CTX alpha for up to 5 axis complete machining of 6 sides. With its B axis swivelling through +-120°, the bottom turret with direct tool drive, the NC controlled swivelling and positionable counterspindle, the tool magazine holding up to 72 tools as well as the Shop Turn 3G control system from Siemens, the CTX alpha TC now yields fascinating performance and flexibility for turning diameters of up to 370 mm and turning lengths of up to 424 mm. Furthermore, bar material of up to 65 mm in diameter can be machined with outstanding precision with autarchic throughfeed. Examples for the high degree of productivity also are short chip-to-chip times below four seconds as well as high-performance drives with speeds up to 6,000 rpm in the turning spindle, or up to 20,000 rpm in the milling spindle of the B axis respectively.

DMU 65: Highly dynamic universal machine allowing excellent accessibility, maximum stability and highest precision

The highly dynamic DMU 65 presented by DECKEL MAHO Pfronten at the AMB marks the start of an entirely new generation of compact universal machines. On the basis of a monoBLOCK® cast iron stand with 3 point support and equipped with an optimally accessible machining compartment (X, Y and Z) measuring 650 x 650 x 560 mm, the strong points of the DMU 65 are mainly generated from its modular design concept. In addition to the stationary table for the workpiece pickup, various swivel-type round tables with gear drive or torque drive are available, together with a swivel-type round table with integrated rotary function or in a pallet changer version allowing parallel feeding at peak times. Another impressive feature is the variable choice of spindles. Not only the standard 18,000 rpm spindle, but also high torque spindles for high performance milling as well as high-speed spindles for HSC machining are available. Even with its tool magazine, the DMU 65 with system solutions for 30, 60 and 90 tools is well equipped to cover all enquiries. Furthermore, there will be a version with linear drives for all axes to maximise dynamics and even faster traverse speeds in the future, for which only high-tech control systems from Siemens (Sinumerik 840D solutionline) and Heidenhain (iTNC 530) will be installed. 3 FACHPRESSEINFORMATION

DMU 60 eVo linear

In the field of universal machines, the new DMU 60 eVo linear from DECKEL MAHO Seebach shown at the AMB is bound to redefine the benchmark of its class. Equipped with traverses (in the X,Y and Z direction) of 600 x 500 x 500 mm, this machine marks the start of an entirely new generation of DMU eVo and DMU eVo linear machines produced in Seebach. Key criteria of the innovation are its high versatility, its excellent precision and unrivalled productivity. Here, core modules are the time and again fascinating NC tilting round table for 5 axis machining, available not only in a gear drive variant and a torque drive, and the use of linear drives in the X axis for accelerations of up to 10 m/s2 and a 80 m/min high-speed traverse. The new successful modular system of the DMU 60 eVo linear is complemented by various tool magazines with a fast double-gripper for up to 120 tools, by a number of different spindle alternatives for speeds of between 8,000 rpm and 42,000 rpm, as well as by the possibility to integrate a pallet changer for parallel loading and unloading at peak times.

Matrix technology from DMG Microset GmbH: Unique innovation for tool presetting

At the AMB, DMG Microset GmbH takes tool presetting to the next level with its new matrix technology. The control unit of the MICROSET system uses an air cushion to move over a 100 % level glass pane with a DataMatrix code in the form of a chess pattern ("Matrix"). The camera holder freely moving on the glass bed can be approached to the horizontally inserted tool from any side. This allows, for the first time, unlimited measuring of the most varied tools, making previous differentiation between horizontal and vertical setting units obsolete. However, this new measuring method permits an until now unsurpassed precision in the field of tool presetting.

DMG's large machinery: Launching a new dimension

With its XXL machining centres, DMG steps into a new dimension. Where in the past, for instance, huge crankshafts or protruding large tools where outside the portfolio, DMG now moves into the focus of international large component manufacturers in the automotive and vehicle construction, general mechanical engineering as well as in the 4 FACHPRESSEINFORMATION

aerospace and energy industries with its new turning/milling centres of the CTX delta TC series and the 5 axis universal centre DMU 600 P. With their Mega turning/milling centres CTX delta 4000 TC and CTX delta 6000 TC, GILDEMEISTER Drehmaschinen GmbH has launched two impressive new developments, that will open the doors wide to new machining dimensions thanks to turning lengths of up to 6,000 mm and turning diameters of up to 1,070 mm before the end of the year. Key criteria for the new CTX delta TC machines soon to be put into operation include extreme rigidity and the high- torque turning/milling spindle, the +/- 330 mm Y path, longest of their class, as well as the DMG ERGOline® Control with a new ShopTurn 3G control system from Siemens permitting excellent operation and control, and very simple programming.

Those who witnessed the milling centre DMU 340 in operation can hardly believe that even this huge machine may be too small at times. But, for instance, for projecting forming tools and moulds in the automotive industry and in vehicle construction, or for large workpieces in the aerospace or energy industries, even a 3,400 mm traverse path is insufficient to meet the component specifications. Backed by the experienced gained from more than 800 installed gantry machines, DECKEL MAHO has launched a new large machine project with the DMU 600 P, which, above all thanks to its dynamics of up to 3 m/s2 and the resulting high productivity, will redefine the boundaries in large component machining for workpiece weights up to 40 tons. The dimensions of the new DMU 600 P speak for themselves: 6,000 mm in the X direction and 4,200 mm in Y direction, as well as a W axis of the 1,600 mm (optional 2,000 mm) cross beam and an additional slide stroke in the Z axis of up to 1,500 mm. Add to this the gantry clearance of 3,500 mm width or up to 3,000 mm height respectively, or the dimensions of the machining table of 5,000 x 2,600 mm capable of accepting workpieces of up to a weight of 40 tons. cellcube: a+f GmbH presents new large energy cells

With cellcube FB 10-100, the a+f GmbH, an associated company of the GILDEMEISTER group, presents a turn-key energy storage system (ESS) on the DMG stand at the AMB. The cellcube FB 10-100 can be charged and discharged with up to 10 kW (kilowatt), making up to 100 kWh (kilowatt hours) of energy available. A larger one, cellcube FB 200-400 is distinguished by a capacity of up to 200 kW and a maximum charge capacity 5 FACHPRESSEINFORMATION

of 400 kWh. A large battery is capable of charging up to eight electric cars in less than ten minutes, or of supplying up to 80 four-person households with power for one night. For the manufacturing industry cellcube is very interesting as well. It guarantees, for instance, world wide a power supply for the production that is independent of local electricity supply situations. Failures during the production period caused of abrupt electrical power outages can be avoided completely.
