Gustavo Chamorro named director of Center of Excellence

(Santa Ana)—Rancho Santiago Community College District has appointed Gustavo Chamorro as director of the Orange County Center of Excellence. As director, Chamorro assists nine Orange County community colleges with economic reports and research tools. He will help identify regional and local economic and workforce development opportunities and recommend community college response. Chamorro brings eight years of experience in the implementation of economic and workforce development programs. Since 2000, he has held a variety of positions in the City of Santa Ana. Most recently, he served as a program manager helping to grow relationships with governmental agencies, business and community organizations in support of workforce development initiatives. In that role, he analyzed and evaluated labor market and demographic data and assisted in coordinating a comprehensive economic development strategy. Prior to that, he served as marketing/business coordinator for the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. Funded by the Chancellor’s Office of the California Community Colleges, the Center of Excellence conducts environmental scanning on high growth, emerging, and economically- critical industries and their related workforce and occupational needs. Information from the scans is intended to assist the strategic planning and decision-making efforts of colleges in addressing local and regional workforce needs. Chamorro earned an associate degree at San Bernardino Valley College, a B.A. in business administration and an M.B.A. at California State University, San Bernardino.
