Preterite vs Imperfect: Part I Some words and phrases indicate the preterite.

Spanish has two past tenses: preterite and imperfect. Ayer (yesterday) anteayer (the day before yesterday) ayer por la mañana (yesterday morning) The preterite is used for actions in the past that are seen ayer por la tarde (yesterday afternoon) as completed.
