Position Description
VICE PRESIDENT OF INSTRUCTION AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT – Posn# F0040
The Vice President of Instruction and Student Development is responsible to the president and serves as the chief academic officer of the college. This responsibility includes but is not limited to planning, organizing, supervising, and evaluating the college’s instructional and student services programs.
Specific job responsibilities may include but not be limited to the following:
1. Providing academic leadership in department planning to include: • Providing leadership for the development and evaluation of curricula, programs, courses of study, and support services to serve the educational and student development needs of the community; • Providing leadership for the recruitment, supervision, valuation, and development of the instructional and student services s taff; • Working with the Vice President of Finance and Administration in planning the college budget and in disbursement of funds in support of educational and student services; • Providing administrative leadership, supervision, and evaluation for instruction and student services including the Academic Divisions, Learning Resources, Student Success and Academic D e v e l o p m e n t , Admissions and Records, Counseling Services, and Financial Aid; • Participating in curriculum and program advisory committee meetings; • Ensuring that instructional, informational, and technological resources provide appropriate support to the mission of the college; • Providing leadership in long range planning; • Working with agencies to provide articulation opportunities; • Advising the President on matters relating to the educational support programs of the college including policies, practices, and developments at the local, state, and national level; • Working with agencies in providing/facilitating opportunities for student learning; • Overseeing program requirements and ensuring compliance; • Overseeing production of class schedules, catalogs, programs, brochures, and other publications related to instructional activities; • Providing leadership in and overseeing program needs assessment; and, • Supervising/coordinating the preparation of statistical data, reports and grant proposals and submission of grant proposals relative to the academic mission of the college.
2. Providing administrative leadership relative to college activities/ events to include: • Serving on college standing and ad hoc committees, including search committees; • Providing leadership in procurement of computer hardware and software for instructional purposes; • Conflict resolution between students and faculty; • Representing instruction and student services at meetings such as the President's Cabinet and other required committees and meetings created to facilitate instructional and student services development; and, • Attending meetings and maintaining other appropriate communications on behalf of the college.
3. Providing administrative leadership relative to scheduling, to include: • Providing leadership in program development; • Overseeing semester class schedules and course offerings; and, • Providing leadership in enrollment management
4. Providing administrative leadership relative to student/faculty/staff, to include: • Serving as a mentor/advisor to faculty and staff in a proactive manner; • Collaborating with appropriate personnel to assure consistency and ongoing communication regarding instructional and student services; • Maintaining an active program of professional development for him/herself as well as for faculty and staff; • Supporting faculty and staff on issues such as professional development; • Evaluating full- and part-time staff; • Selection of full- and part-time staff; and, • Assisting faculty and staff in locating and securing professional development activities.
5. Providing administrative leadership relative to budget/finance to include: • Proposing and maintaining instructional budget; • Providing support to academic divisions in faculty productivity; • Supporting departmental budgets; • Analyzing allocation of academic program resources and recommending changes or adjustments as appropriate in relation to budgets; • Preparing cost analyses for adjunct faculty; • Working with other divisions to review and improve efficiency of instructional and student services, as well as enrollment management; • Securing grant funding for academic programs; • Assisting faculty and staff in locating and securing monies for professional development; and, • Oversees grant program personnel and resources. Required Qualifications
Earned Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university prior to hire date;
Successful, responsible administration/management experience in a higher education environment;
Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy of education;
Successful experience working with workforce development, career and technical, transfer, and dual enrollment programs; and,
Excellent customer service skills that allows one to work successfully with diverse groups of people and diverse individuals.
Preferred Qualifications
Successful administrative, supervisory and teaching experience at the community college level; and,
Successful experience with the accreditation process.
