BrainPOP: Free Resources You Can Use Now, Mike Casagrande, BrainPOP Did you know that BrainPOP has a wealth of free resources in addition to their subscription services? Attend this session to learn about educational games, videos, and other resources you can use right away with your students to support standards-based learning in the library.

A Dollar Here, A Dollar There: Grant Writing Tips and Opportunities, Connie Amon, Librarian, Galileo Elementary School In this introductory session on grant writing, we'll be looking at Chicago Foundation for Education grants, the Laura Bush Grant, ISLMA grants, ISL grants, as well as a few other possibilities. Participants will leave with at least one idea for a grant-funded project.

Page 2 of 4 Discovery 2.0: An Introduction to New Applications and Features of the SOAR Integrated Library System Christie Thomas and Joe Horning will demonstrate the new SOAR public access catalog (OPAC), and highlight new features of the LS2Staff (formerly LS2Circ) module and the forthcoming Reports module. New features include improved ability to share resources and customize the OPAC welcome page, the ability to export some item data directly from LS2Staff instead of using the Reports module, easier navigation of the Reports module and more.

Elementary Battle of the Books Information Session, Dorsey Chambers, CPS Department of Educational Tools & Technology/Libraries Are you interested in participating in this year’s Elementary Battle of the Books program? Attend this session if you are new to Battle of the Books or considering joining for the first time. You will learn how to secure books, how to manage the program at the school, and what to expect in online and in-person competitions.

Embracing Shades of Gray: My Sibert Year, Toby Rajput, National Louis University Librarians are familiar with The Robert F. Sibert Award for distinguished informational books for children, especially in the age of Common Core. But the experience of actually being a member of an ALSC Book Award committee was full of surprises, including new learning about the nature of nonfiction and the need to embrace shades of gray. Join Toby Rajput, former CPS Area Library Coordinator and current Children's & Youth Literature Librarian at National Louis University, as she shares her Sibert Year.

Graphite: A New Ed Tech Service from Common Sense Media, Sue Thotz, Common Sense Media Graphite, a new tool from Common Sense Media, makes it easy for teachers to find the best digital learning tools by presenting them with independent ratings and reviews based on rigorous rubric that evaluates learning potential. The site couples in-depth analysis of ed tech products with insights from teachers on how best to use them in a classroom. Reading a review on the site is like listening to advice from a valued mentor with deep experience leveraging technology in the classroom.

Librarian Marketplace, Nilesh Mehta, CPS Department of Procurement The Librarian Marketplace launched last spring as a new way to purchase library books. This tool is designed to save time and money to maximize library budgets. Attend this session to receive an overview and ask questions about this exciting new tool.

A Look at Selected Saddleback Urban Literature Hi/Low Books, PJ Gray, Author Saddleback Publications has just released a new series called Coming Home, which is a group of 3 books that author PJ Gray initially wrote for a friend who tutors in an after school program in Chicago. The books are written at a second grade reading level, but are targeted at struggling/reluctant readers ages 13 and up. They books are classified as Urban Fiction and each book is approximately 2000 words. Receive a complimentary book and attend the author book signing at lunch. Then, attend this session to hear more from the author about this series.

If so, attend this session to learn more information to help you succeed in Chicago Public Schools. In this session, you will learn about resources, policies, procedures, and programs designed to help support your library program.

The New Literacy Content Framework 2.0: An Overview, Erin Koning, CPS Department of Literacy Librarians play an important role in supporting literacy development in their schools across grade levels and curriculum areas. The CPS Department of Literacy recently released the new Literacy Content Framework 2.0, which is available in the CPS Knowledge Center. Attend this session to be on the cutting edge in ways you can support this new framework in your library.

SOAR Drop-in Clinic, Christie Thomas and Joe Horning Do you have a specific question about SOAR or want to learn something new? Learn on-demand with Joe Horning and Christie Thomas, who are able to work with you one-on-one or in small groups at the SOAR Drop-In Clinic.

Street Literature and the School Library, KC Boyd, Phillips Librarian; Carmen Adams (Curie HS); Tamela Chambers (CVCA); and LaVonna Williams (Hirsch HS) Join Street Literature advocate/reviewer K.C. Boyd as she leads a panel discussion on 'Street Literature and the School Library'. Hear how Carmen Adams (Curie HS), Tamela Chambers (CVCA), and LaVonna Williams (Hirsch HS) have developed their collections and advocate for their use in the library/classroom. In addition, these librarians will share best practices/strategies when using books from this genre to engage students in leisure reading.
