The Older Peoples Directorate provides a range of services across Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby. These include psychological and social therapies, and medical treatments which are tailored to an individual’s needs.

Services always try to be holistic in their approach to work with service users and carers to improve health and quality of life. A person’s preference, cultural and religious background will always be taken into account. Services may be provided at a hospital or day hospital, or in a persons own home.

The approach is based on teams of specialist professionals working together, known as the multidisciplinary team approach. Teams visiting people at home are called community mental health teams.

The services are for all people aged 65 or more living within the geographical area covered by Mersey Care NHS Trust and people under age 65 who suffer from young onset dementia. The multidisciplinary teams, inpatient, day patient and outpatient services with their secretarial and administrative support are based in a variety of locations throughout the area. Each base is generally responsible for people in a defined geographical area local to that base.
