Dear Parents and Carers, Term 1 got off to a very busy start and all students have now settled into their new class and for some, a new school as well. During maths students were focusing on learning time and money maths. As part of money maths and communicating, the class visited the canteen to practice waiting in a line, asking for an item and counting their money. In Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, (PDHPE) students learnt about who can help them, in our unit “Personal Safety Net’ and they have been exploring emotions how becoming a teenager can affect your emotions. In sport the students have been practicing Boccia and learning about beach water safety. In literacy, students have been learning spelling words, word families, reading, writing and also developing their speaking skills. Some students have begun working on their chosen research projects, and all students will have an opportunity to conduct a research project in term 2. In term 2, the students will be again very busy learning and developing their skills. In literacy, students will be working on their individual projects, researching and publishing their projects, to share with the class and their families. In maths we will be learning about patterns in numbers, art and in everyday life. This term for money maths, I would like the class to experience using money by participating in our class ‘Yoghurt Land Catering Pack’, once a fortnight. The students will be involved in choosing the flavours and toppings, placing the order and then going to Stockland’s to pick up the order, and then return to school to eat their selections. Each week a different student will be the cashier, to collect the money. Later on in the term, we may have an excursion to Yoghurt Land, for students to make their own purchase of yoghurt. We had a trial tasting last term, and the

students all enjoyed the experience. Some senior students have been selected for the school Boccia Team, and they will be travelling to the Boccia Competition this term. More information will follow. In PDHPE students will be exploring friendships and the factors that contribute to positive and negative friendships. This term the students will be studying ancient history. They will be learning about the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia. I hope this newsletter has given you an understanding of what your child is learning this semester. Please use the communication book if you have any questions or call the school if you need to speak to myself or Katrina about any specific issues. Thank you
