Biology - Dissection Information

Supplies: . Need 100-count non-latex gloves by Monday, April 8th. Everyone needs to bring gloves. o Found at stores like Walmart, Walgreens, etc. o Write name(s) on box of gloves – will be kept in the biology room . Girls need to bring something to tie back hair on dissection days . Lab coats will be provided, but you shouldn’t wear nice clothes or shoes on lab days . If there is a dress down on a lab day, you MUST wear shoes that cover your feet in the lab

Schedule: . We will dissect a starfish, clam, and grasshopper the week of April 8th, and have a test on Animal phylums, labs, dissection on Friday, April 12th. . We will begin the Pig Dissection Unit on Monday, April 15th, and ending with a pig test on Thursday, May 2nd. Generally, we will have an instructional day followed by a lab dissection day. There are a total of five dissection days. . See back for a complete breakdown of our schedule

Attendance: . You NEED to be here EVERY day during the fetal pig dissection . You will receive points every day from beginning to end of the dissection . You are required to make up any points you miss if you are gone for any reason

Points: . You should expect a short quiz at the end of EACH instructional day.  If you miss an instructional day, you need to make up the quiz the day you get back . You have 10 points for each dissection day (50 points total). No points will be deducted if you fulfill all responsibilities associated with lab. More info to come on responsibilities  If you miss a dissection day, you need to make up your lab points by writing a 1 page, double spaced summary, using 12 point Times New Roman font. Your summary should describe what happened in lab, what you should have done, what you should have learned, what your lab partners did, etc.

Participation: All students are responsible for: . Following the lab dissection instructions . Maintaining a clean work area . Assisting lab partners with lab duties .
