Greetings SCRA community;

We are seeking nominations for a new SCRA National Student Representative (NSR). This is an exciting opportunity for students to demonstrate leadership within SCRA at a national level.

NSR's are elected to a two-year term and serve as full voting members of the Society’s Executive Committee. As an NSR, students get an array of hands-on experiences through responsibilities such as managing student submissions to The Community Psychologist, coordinating award applications, budgeting student programming, and involving students in SCRA initiatives as needed. NSRs also have the opportunity to attend the annual APA conference (funded by SCRA) and to be involved in program planning. The incoming National Student Representative serves a term that overlap with a senior NSR. This overlap promotes a mentorship approach to learn more about SCRA and the roles of the elected position The NSR role is a wonderful way for students to get connected with other community psychologists in the field.

For more information about the position please contact current Student Representatives Chuck Sepers and Meagan Sweeney [email protected]

Nomination Requirements Nominations for the position may come from a faculty advisor, mentor, or directly from interested candidates. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, May 1st, 2015. In addition to the nomination, potential candidates are asked to include a 400-500 word statement, which should include short academic biographical information, intentions to run for SCRA National Student Representative, past and future involvement with SCRA initiatives, and other information as deemed relevant by the candidate. These candidate statements will be made available to SCRA student membership to aid them in the voting process. Nominations and candidate statements should be emailed to [email protected].

Eligibility: To be eligible for ballot consideration and service as NSR, students must be an SCRA student member in good standing (i.e., current annual dues are paid) and have been actively engaged within SCRA initiatives, including, but not limited to: serving on a committee or interest group, helped plan for a conference or workshop (e.g., Biennial, Eco conference), written an article for The Community Psychologist, etc.

NSR Elections The election for National Student Representative will begin on Sunday, May 5th, 2015. Voting will be limited to all SCRA–Division 27 student members in good standing (i.e., current annual dues are paid) at the time of the election, and only SCRA student members will receive ballots. Student members will receive the list of candidates with their statements via email, along with an encouragement to vote. Candidates are not permitted to campaign through the SCRA listservs, but are encouraged to gain support through their professional networks. Students will cast their vote through a unique link via an electronic data collection source; this URL is unique to each address and serves as a receipt for students casting their vote. Sharing this unique URL is strictly prohibited and will invalidate all votes associated with it. Election of the new NSR will be determined by majority vote. The candidate with the most votes will assume office in conjunction with the SCRA Biennial in June, 2015. The voting poll will close on Monday, May 26th, 2015. The selected NSR will be announced through the SCRA listserv and membership list at the conclusion of the election.

As always, thank you for your continued support!

Regards,

Chuck and Meagan
