Social Media Guide for first year travel

We are excited to hear all of the individual travel stories! To facilitate ease in sharing your adventure, the college has set up a system for posting on social media that lets us follow you.

ON FACEBOOK: GLOBAL ASC 2016 is an OPEN group connected to Agnes Scott Center for Global Learning. “OPEN” means anyone can join, view and post to the site. This will be the consolidated site where all travelers are invited to post. To identify your particular trip, use your group hashtag. People who want to follow your trip exclusively can search that hashtag. Facebook open group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/globalASC2016/

Share this information with any parents, friends, teachers, peers, pets, neighbors, and grandparents who may want to follow you. Make sure they know they can search for your trip by the individual trip hashtag.

The folks at Agnes will be following your hashtags, and may be so moved or excited by your post that we want to repost your story on the college website, so if and when you use the hashtag #MYSUMMIT alongside your trip hashtag, you are giving permission for the college to amplify your story, AND your post is then eligible for CASH awards for best reflections via posts. Winning posts will be selected by a panel of faculty, staff and students after the trips and peak week.

Considerations:

Ethics: Consider the National Press Photographer’s Association code of ethics when you make pictures. Especially: ● Treat all subjects with respect and dignity. Give special consideration to vulnerable subjects and compassion... ● Think proactively, as a student of psychology, sociology, politics and art to develop a unique vision and presentation. ● Work with a voracious appetite for current events and contemporary visual media. ● Strive to be unobtrusive and humble in dealing with subjects. ● Respect the integrity of the photographic moment.

Be mindful when you make pictures of people, ensure that you are not being exploitive!

Post often! Use your posts as a tickler for when you have more time for a longer reflection. Notice what you notice--why is the moment important or interesting? Consider ways of seeing that don’t merely document, but also describe a discovery. What are you learning?
