Brunjes’ impressive career in public service 21 began in 1973 when he graduated from The Citadel and was one of 22 the few nonmilitary academy graduates selected to receive a highly 23 coveted Regular Army commission as a Second Lieutenant; and 24 25 Whereas, Colonel Brunjes first distinguished himself in the 26 renowned 82nd Airborne Division, where, as a young infantry 27 officer, he excelled in a series of demanding duty assignments, 28 including Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and 29 Heavy Mortar Platoon Leader, quickly ascending the 30 commissioned ranks and ultimately being promoted to Captain in 31 only four years of service; and 32 33 Whereas, consistent with his lead by example personality, Dave 34 Brunjes volunteered for and successfully completed many of the 35 Army’s most mentally and physically challenging schools, 36 including the United States Army Airborne School, the United 37 States Army Ranger School, the United States Army Jump Masters 38 School, and the United States Army Jungle Operations Course; and 39 40 Whereas, upon receiving his Juris Doctor Degree from Washburn 41 University in 1980, Dave Brunjes served six more years on active

1 [5402] 1 1 duty as an attorney in the United States Army Judge Advocate 2 General’s Corps; and 3 4 Whereas, shortly after joining the United States Army Reserve, 5 Colonel Brunjes’ invaluable services were again required on active 6 duty during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he 7 served as the Chief of Criminal Law at the United States Army 8 Central Command Headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and 9 10 Whereas, Colonel Brunjes has deservedly received many of our 11 country’s highest military awards and decorations, including the 12 Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak 13 leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf 14 clusters, the Southwest Asia Campaign Ribbon with three bronze 15 service stars, the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), the Kuwait 16 Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), the Senior Parachutist Badge, 17 and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge; and 18 19 Whereas, in recognition of his incomparable leadership abilities, 20 Colonel Brunjes was selected to command the 12th Legal Support 21 Organization, a brigade-level command, which is a notable 22 achievement for any officer in the Reserve Components, but much 23 more so for a Judge Advocate General Officer; and 24 25 Whereas, Colonel David H. Brunjes is the consummate citizen 26 soldier, whose full-time civilian career as the Deputy Legal 27 Counsel at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in 28 Brunswick, Georgia, has been no less impressive; and 29 30 Whereas, Dave Brunjes and his loving wife Barbara are blessed 31 with four wonderful children, Jonathan, Thomas, Kimberly, and 32 Kerri, who was born while her father was deployed to Saudi 33 Arabia during the Persian Gulf War; and 34 35 Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General 36 Assembly to pause in their deliberations and take this opportunity 37 to express their sincere appreciation to Colonel David H. Brunjes 38 for his three decades of loyal and selfless public service. Now, 39 therefore, 40 41 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 42 concurring: 43

1 [5402] 2 1 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 2 Carolina, by this resolution, commend Colonel David H. “Dave” 3 Brunjes for his nearly thirty years of outstanding and dedicated 4 service as a commissioned officer in both the United States Army 5 and the United States Army Reserve, and congratulate him for his 6 successful tenure as Commander of the 12th Legal Support 7 Organization, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. 8 9 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be delivered to 10 Colonel David H.
