OAK CREEK LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION LOCAL RULES
PLAY WILL BE GOVERNED BY THE USGA RULES OF GOLF WITH THE FOLLOWING LOCAL RULES BEING IN EFFECT as written January 2017 and amended May 1, 2017
1. Devices that measure distance only are allowed. (Appendix 1-A-7)
2. Accidental Movement of a Ball on a Putting Green. When a player's ball lies on a putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent or any of their caddies or equipment. The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced. (2017 modifications to Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1). Note that if the ball is moved by wind or water the ball must be played as it lies.
3. Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions and may be removed without penalty. Rule 24-1 applies. (Appendix 1-A-3f)
4. Stones tying into a cart path have the same status as the cart part (obstruction). The ball may be dropped without penalty within one club length of the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole. (Decision 33-8/25)
5. Through the green a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark may be marked, lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. (Appendix 1-A-3a) This local rule does not apply to a ball in a bunker or water hazard.
6. On hole #16 there is a dropping zone forward of the water hazard where, as an option to the water hazard rule, a ball may be dropped under penalty of one stroke. (Appendix 1-A-6)
7. Any area on a hole having at least one red stake where there is a distinction between rough and trees with severe underbrush may be played as a lateral water hazard.
Boundary Markers: Out-of-bounds is marked by white stakes and/or white lines
Water hazards are marked by yellow stakes and/or yellow lines
Lateral water hazards are marked by red stakes and/or red lines
Ground under repair is marked by white lines
USGA RULES As a reminder, the following selected USGA Rules are listed here. Please reference the USGA Rules of Golf for further clarification or for additional rules. The Golf Rules in Brief (USGA) may also be of assistance.
1. a. A ball must be completely out-of-bounds to be considered out-of-bounds. b. A ball on a hazard line is considered to be in the hazard. c. A ball touching a ground under repair line is in the ground under repair. d. A ball touching the green is on the green.
2. If the ball lies under a tree or bush, or on tree roots, it must be played as it lies, or the player may declare the ball unplayable and play one of the options under the Ball Unplayable rule (USGA Rule 28), under penalty of one stroke.
3. If a ball lies on a paved cart path, the ball may be dropped without penalty within one club- length, and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief under the Obstruction rule (USGA Rule 24). A ball lying on hard pan or unpaved areas worn by golf carts must be played as it lies, or declared unplayable and played under one of the options of the Ball Unplayable rule (USGA Rule 28), under penalty of one stroke.
4. The player may play a provisional ball until she reaches the place where her original ball is likely to be. If she plays a stroke with the provisional ball from the place where the original ball is likely to be or from a point nearer the hole than that place, the original ball is lost and the provisional ball becomes the ball in play. If the original ball is lost not in a water hazard, or is out of bounds, the provisional ball becomes the ball in play. (USGA Rule 27-2)
