Catalog Description This introductory course for the beginning drafter includes such topics as drafting room practices, graphical geometry, orthographic projection, and dimensioning will be taught to ANSI standards. Course also introduces AutoCAD software as a drafting tool. Students develop skills need to produce 2D drawings, basic dimensioning. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 4 hours.

Course Objectives This course is intended to provide you with a fundamental introduction and practical approach to drafting, utilizing American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards and conventions. The first half of the course provides the standard drafting skills andf concepts encessary for proper drawing positioning and dimensioning. During the following classes, students will continue learning those practices while accessing drawings with the AutoCAD software on the computer. The CAD skills include 1. Creating of basic entities – lines, circles, arcs, text, etc. 2. Editing and saving drawing entities. 3. Basic dimensioning and printing.

Teaching Methods This is a lecture and laboratory course with special emphasis on class discussion and participation. Do not hesitate to ask questions or comment on the subject at hand. Students are expected to come to class with reading assignments completed. Laboratory assignments are to be completed in a timely manner. Lettering and line work assignments are due each week.

Attendance Policy Class attendance will be monitored for administrative purposes. No direct grade reduction or penalty will be levied for necessary absences. Please contact me if you are absent in order to catch up. The schedules and procedures outlined herein are subject to change, based on the needs of instructor and students, with the final decision being made by the instructor.

Equipment and Supplies – Engineering Drawing Pencils and lead – to be discussed - .5mm and .3mm ok Drafting tape, dust brush, eraser and erasing shield Triangles: a 30/60 degree and a 45 degree triangle Triangular scale: architectural or metric or engineers Bow compass Optional: dividers, Ames lettering guide; vellum sheets (8 1/2” x 11”); a circle template.

Late Assignments and Missed Exam Policy Late homework assignments are allowed and are due at the end of the week they are assigned. In order to due well in this course you must keep up with the material and homework assignments. The policies and statements contained in this syllabus may be altered, added to or deleted at any time by the instructor of the class. This will be done by typed supplements or amendments given to the student in class during the semester. Changes to the schedule will be announced in class. Typed supplements may not be provided for changes to the schedule.

10. Learning Support Services: Reading, writing, math, and computer learning support services are available at the Facet Center.

11. Computer Services Acceptable Use: Access to computing resources is a privilege granted to all TCC faculty, staff, and students. Use of TCC computing resources is limited to purposes related to the college’s mission of education, research, and community service. Student use of technology is governed by the Computer Services Acceptable Use Statements/Standards found in the TCC Student Code of Conduct Policy Handbook. These handbooks may be obtained by contacting any Student Activities or Dean of Student Services office.

12. Course Withdrawal: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class. Contact the Counseling Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for deadlines. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student.

13. Communications: a. Email communications: All TCC students receive a designated “MyTCC” email address (ex: [email protected]). All communications to you about TCC and course assignments will be sent to your MyTCC email address; and you must use MyTCC email to send email to, and receive email from, the instructor regarding this course.

b. Inclement Weather: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency situations arise, TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations. This information is also posted on the TCC website (www.tulsacc.edu).

12. 16. Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may: . require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or test; . Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question; . Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student from the class; . Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester.

Faculty may request that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by submitting such request to the Dean of Student Services. 17.
