Freshman Scheduling Tips
Now is your time to explore! Register for a course which has a special topic of interest to you. It does not have to fulfill a requirement!!
Choose around 10 courses that appeal to you. It’s always great to have a backup list of courses if you do not get into your first choices.
Try to create a mix of courses that allow you to break for lunch daily, accommodate athletic practices, and spread out your class attendance over the five days of the week.
Use the scheduling worksheet to help visualize your schedule of classes. The worksheet is available at: http://www.advising.jhu.edu/downloads/SchedulingWorksheet.doc
If you do not know your AP scores yet, make your best guess as to possible scores and go ahead and register.
Register early! Popular courses tend to fill up quickly.
If you are undecided about what major you would like to go into, use your first semester as a time of exploration. Take a few introductory level courses in subject areas that you have a particular interest in. Who knows? This could open up the door to a major that you had never even considered!!
If you have a particular major in mind, go to the Majors/Minors page for a sample schedule: http://www.advising.jhu.edu/majorsminors.php
Register for 12 -16.5 credits (do not include waitlisted courses).
Relax! Your academic advisor will review your schedule in the summer and provide feedback. We’ll let you know if there are any changes that you need to make.
