Freshman Scheduling Tips

 Now is your time to explore! Register for a course which has a special topic of interest to you. It does not have to fulfill a requirement!!

 Choose around 10 courses that appeal to you. It’s always great to have a backup list of courses if you do not get into your first choices.

 Try to create a mix of courses that allow you to break for lunch daily, accommodate athletic practices, and spread out your class attendance over the five days of the week.

 Use the scheduling worksheet to help visualize your schedule of classes. The worksheet is available at: http://www.advising.jhu.edu/downloads/SchedulingWorksheet.doc

 If you do not know your AP scores yet, make your best guess as to possible scores and go ahead and register.

 Register early! Popular courses tend to fill up quickly.

 If you are undecided about what major you would like to go into, use your first semester as a time of exploration. Take a few introductory level courses in subject areas that you have a particular interest in. Who knows? This could open up the door to a major that you had never even considered!!

 If you have a particular major in mind, go to the Majors/Minors page for a sample schedule: http://www.advising.jhu.edu/majorsminors.php

 Register for 12 -16.5 credits (do not include waitlisted courses).

 Relax! Your academic advisor will review your schedule in the summer and provide feedback. We’ll let you know if there are any changes that you need to make.
