Mrs. Cancino’s Fifth Grade Band Newsletter May 1, 2017 Dear Band Parents:
Good luck to students participating in tomorrow’s Solo & Ensemble Festival. Time and reminder sheets went home with students yesterday.
Just 10 more band classes left! I’ve listed the tests again for you and noted which classes have completed the tests. I let the kids know this week, but we’ll double-up playing tests on Monday/Tuesday, leaving Wednesday/Thursday open for Band Ninja Belt Tests. #88, p. 20 m.3-7, #95, #96—only Parks M/W class needs to do these still. They will take them Monday, then do #103, 111 on Wednesday. They may have time to belt test on Wednesday. May 8/9--#103, 111 May 15/16--#126, 127 May 22/23--#131, 134 May 29/30—p. 42, concert Ab major scale I’ve gone over the tests in class, we’ve marked the music for analysis and easy practice, I’ve told the kids which additional exercises they need to review in order to play the tests well, now all that’s left is to practice!
All school-owned instruments will be due back to me, with any accompanying accessories (i.e. cleaning rod/swab, mouthpiece cap, ligature, valve oil, etc.) on June 1, 2017. Any instruments not returned will have a debt letter attached to your child’s school record for the full replacement value of the instrument, until the instrument is returned. Student-owned instruments should be looked at by a repair technician over the summer so they are ready for the fall (*brass instruments will probably seize up if not played all summer…).
I’ve contacted the fifth grade team leaders, to find out if we’ll miss any days. I’ll let you know what I hear as I hear it…so far: last day at Parks for Band will be Monday, June 5th. The rest of the year is all early dismissal days, and I don’t have class on those days for you. I heard that Barnhart band may end early, waiting to hear about confirmation of this rumor and dates. Mitchell said there isn’t anything that will affect our class, and Matula, we don’t seem to be disrupted, either. When I have more for you, I’ll pass it along!
I’ll have grades updated next week for you, don’t forget to check Edline to keep track of your child’s progress.
Have a great week!
